QUESTION: TVs in public places
In homage to another thread, I ask the vast DU universe:

where is the strangest/most inappropriate public place you've seen a TV?

I've seen them at the bank and in grocery stores; I have yet to see one in a public bathroom, but wouldn't be a bit surprised if someone else has.

Oh, and what would make this more fun is if you can include a picture and/or a map to said place.

Thank you.

1. Fox was blathering in the waiting room of an internist
I consulted a few years ago.

I did complain, and the receptionist mumbled something, but I haven't been back.

2. Fox coverage
One of my favorite chinese restaurants has a small television with Fox new on 24/7. We asked for them to change the station or to shut off the TV. They said no and we have not been back since.

3. I have a TV-B-Gone and it works
Most employees won't notice that the propaganda blatting from the set has stopped and others will notice but be relieved.

The gizmo will turn the set back on as I exit. If they're nice to me. If I feel like it.

4. LOL
As much as I enjoy certain shows (The Colbert Report, Mondays through Thursdays 11:30pm, Comedy central)

But is there enough to justify 500 channels?

I got one online. It works. I kid you not.

The TV in question has to be one that works with a wireless remote, though. It won't work on an old thrift shop TV sets that one was expected to heave up off the couch to change channels on.

10. Thanks, Warpy!
I found them at the Office Max just a mile from our store.

I'm getting four - one for me, one for Mr. JaneAustin, and one each for our sons.

I may just have to duck into various offices on a Fox Hunt!

14. Thank you for that....everywhere I go there's a TV blaring stuff and it's
really not good for blood pressure to go to your Doctors Office or for your sanity to go to your Dentist and have Faux News Blaring. It's a KILLER! Maybe we could sue Faux and CNN (too) for causing "over medication" by doctors of their patients who come in red faced and panting after sitting for an hour or more in an office with either cable blaring.

7. I would almost expect a TV at McDonald's...
...empty Tv to go with the empty calories.

But, yeah, it is kinda strange...what would they do if a Burger King commercial came on?

Not sure if this is NSFW, but...scroll to the bottom ofthis page for a funny picture.

Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 08:09 PM by cynatnite
Might get some folks thinking about what they're paying for gas and everyone dying in Iraq. Would be sobering, I think.

Pics or it doesn't exist.

Sorry, but that is beyond the pale.

If this is real, then there is no help for America.

OTOH, maybe someone will use them as target practice?

Well, the men's room, anyway. Never thought to check the ladies. :) I believe it's because people come there to watch sporting events, so they have TVs in the bathroom so no action is missed.

23. In the hospital rooms, yes, but in the ER!?
Can you just imagine all the nurses paid for a bunch of lottery tickets and the numbers are called...and...

Of course, they're all professionals, but I can see that happening on one of the medical TV shows.

I watch too much TV.

29. During the run up to Oil War I, I was playing a regular gig...
...in an upscale hotel bar.

About the time that the war drums were beating at a fever pitch, the management decided that it would be a good idea to roll in big screen TVs tuned to 24 hour CNN coverage so the cognescenti could watch the Scud attacks and preparations for Desert Shield as they cruised for ass and sipped their $12 glasses of wine.

The hotel's concept of war and death as entertainment sickened me.

Fortunately I was fired shortly after.

30. I have a suggestion for CNN
We have TV's running at work, they had it on CNN Headline News for a while, but changed it to Fox. I complained about it, and they said they can't play CNN until CNN takes the logo that is always there off the screen.

Personally, I have no problem with them at doctor's offices, it helps pass the time while you are waiting.
