Does the US have the same cult of personality that Iraq under Saddam had?
I was reading the thread "What if Iraq invaded the US" recently and I was reminded of the PR stunt when US troops pulled down Saddam's statue and said that Iraqis did it. I thought to myself, "What PR stunts would the Iraqis pull off to mark the totality of the invasion?"

And then I realized...

Florida's Turnpike designated the Ronald Reagan Turnpike, though the existing name was not changed.

However, subsequent Republican Party Congressional threats to withhold funding caused the renaming over the objection of local leaders and residents.
Ronald Wilson Reagan Memorial Highway (State Route 234, dedicated to Reagan in 2005), Prince William County
The Reagan Building (Richmond City)
Ronald Wilson Reagan College Preparatory High School, Milwaukee

Those Iraqis would have be very busy tearing down OUR statues to our cult of personality.

1. Back when they started wanting to name everything after Ronnie Raygun
Someone suggested that the ideal place for a Reagan Memorial would be in the center of The Great Dismal Swamp.

2. It is conservatives who do this, not Americans.
The right-wing focus on symbols, shooting the messenger, and ancestor worship is going to do us all in.

6. I don't think there are any...
organizations dedicated to renaming everything under the sun to JFK, and I don't think anyone has ever threatened to cut off funding to an organization if they didn't rename themselves after Martin Luther King.

4. What that long list of raygun named entities show is that the people who runs things are the ones
who benefited from the raygun/bush1 years the most and very little more. methinks:-)

8. No. That is being perpetrated by a group of people
...attempting to propagandize everyone else that Reagan was the greatest president ever. There are people that worship the man, but it's a relatively small group.
