Has anyone here ever been to a Dem National Conv before?
Does anyone here understand the process of becoming a delegate to the National Convention? Can you explain it, briefly? It can vary from State to State, correct? If anyone out there has been a delegate from New Mexico, I would love to hear your stories.

I guess it has been awhile since I posted here on DU because the Gen Discussion: Politics forum is gone. I don't think this is a topic for the Primaries exactly as I was hoping for just a broad overview of becoming a National delegate.

Has anyone ever campaigned to be elected as a National delegate at the State level? Were you successful? How did you do it?

Thanks for the DU experience and insight.

Peace.

1. It doesn't answer your question but
my reply will kick up your OP, so No, I've never been a delegate but I was outside the Democratic Convention in 2004, in Boston, MA!! :P The air was electric and people were really high on life. Like a huge street party and everywhere I walked across the city, people were smiling and friendly and giddy with excitement!! It totally rocked!! :D I got an invite from Dean to hear his speech at a hotel and met up with people walking to that hotel for the same reason and there were so many people that showed up the hotel couldn't hold them all, so he had to give a 2nd speech off a balcony to the overflow crowd and people were just cheering with joy and community!! And we all just "bonded"... just like that because... we were ALL on the same page and some college guys that were near me even invited me (old enough to be their Mother!) to walk back to the Boston Common and to go have a beer with them! It just was amazing. ;)

3. It was 'chilling' 'goosebump' type experience. Are you a delegate?
If you're asking because you want to be, then just go!!

It will be an exhilarating experience! :D

4. I am not a delegate to the National convention and I have not
been before. I am curious about the process, only delegates can go the convention.
