6. I just looked him up
He's "Mr KABC".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._KABC

This is probably a BIG plus for KTLK. He's ratings at KABC and KFI were great.

Sounds like a moderate to liberal Democrat.

I'm sure shit will hit the fan for a while, BUT he's good for rating for KTLK.

Unless Harrison is going to be on the weekends, it doesn't look like he's on the air.

3. Effective when?
Why the hell give air time to Colmes, even if it's in the dead of night? He's so ineffective in the face of Reich propaganda as to be borderline-complicit.

I've never heard of this Germain person either. But RRhodes is not exactly soothing to listen to while struggling with traffic for me.

We have to only deal with the Kings and/or Clippers games to interrupt the progressive talk line up.

5. Marc Germain wiki:
Edited on Thu Mar-01-07 02:03 PM by tridim
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._KABC

Philosophy / Ideology / Beliefs
While less ideologically driven than most of his talk radio colleagues, he is a registered Democrat with moderate to liberal political views. When asked by callers, Germain describes himself as a "Law and Order Liberal".

Germain has a strong interest in science and technology, and callers frequently ask him about those topics as well as political news. In the early twenty-first century, Germain devoted considerable airtime to "California's bogus power crisis," and was one of the state's first and leading voices to expose the manipulation of the public sector by energy companies at the great expense of California's taxpayers.

While Jewish by heritage, he does not practice that faith. When asked about his religion/spirituality, he replies that he a Deist.

His comments towards vegetarians and vegans callers to his show reveals a marked hostility towards those eating routines.

His libertarian leanings, as expressed on his show (of “live and let live”), are reflected in his pro-choice and pro gay-marriage beliefs.

--

For some reason he sounds like he might be an Ed Shultz clone, but don't quote me on that. I've obviously never listened to his show. However, anyone who is hostile towards people who choose to not eat meat is a frigging idiot IMO. I'm not a vegetarian, but I would never pass judgement on my vegetarian neighbor because he doesn't eat the same things I do.

37. Ed Schultz is more liberal than Germain.
Then again, I think Ed Schultz is a pretty loyal Democrat and way more liberal than he gets credit for here at DU! Germain is slightly left-of-center, but not as liberal as the rest of the lineup. "Mr. K" is entertaining and very knowledgeable, though.

10. Marc Germain's had a radio show in L.A. for years...
apparently, he got dropped from KABC due to a contractual impasse, and your local AAR affiliate picked him up. Should be good for business for them.

18. UGH!!!
They dumped Harrison? I have to say I didn't listen to him all that much due to the time slot but always enjoyed it. The only problem was that stupid techno-disco bumper music he used to to stick in my head constantly.

I'd kind of like them to dump Ed Shultz. He's really gotten on my nerves and I cannot listen to his voice anymore. He actually said "eat me" to AAR and to Mike Malloy on the air. Ranted on and on about how bad AAR is for about 40 minutes I think it was (I was going to post the link to their video clips of it but they've taken them down). He has alienated Larry Johnson, stopped contacting him and sent him a rude email just because Johnson praised Olbermann. And he's simply not that informed and he's not a good interviewer, doesn't follow up on things and get in depth.

I know he is good as a sort of primer, an entry show so to speak, but I just can't stand him anymore. Glad Randi comes on after Thom so when I go past my noon cutoff time I don't have to hear Ed's voice.

I always liked Sam Seder, especially now that he works alone. I'd like them to run his show.

Those other late night guys they had I just didn't get. Every time I tuned in the guy was talking about nothing, just rambling on about nothing.

I think Ed might have burnt some bridges with his little shit fit he threw.

I just e-mailed Harrison to see if he has some info.

Maybe he'll be on during the weekends. I loved his show. I don't know why the hell they picked up Alan Colmes.

22. I wrote the station
I gave them my 2cents. Overall this is a good line up. But we should be greatful we still have our AAR station. I think Marc "Mr K" will bring in some good ratings. I'll give his show a chance.

BUT they better NEVER touch Stephanie Miller. They mess with "Momma", they'll have me to deal with. I ain't called the offical gay stalker of The Stephanie Miller Show for nothin'!

She gets great ratings for the station, from what I've heard.

Sucks about Harrison. He has one of the best liberal talk shows on the air, and is better than most of the stuff on AAR. He's entertaining, informative, professional and often hilarious. Here's hoping justice is served and he gets a good gig, preferably in syndication, where he should be (are you listening AAR?).

25. Portland (OR) KPOJ line-up -- not the greatest IMHO...
Here's what they did in Portland. I can't imagine SIX hours (even separated by a few hours) OF ANYBODY! "Burnout Ville" here we come!

Monday-Friday -- Program Line-up
12A - 2A The Rachel Maddow Show
This woman is smart! (Editor's note: YEAH, WELL THEN, WHY DIDN'T YOU PUT HER ON IN A DECENT TIME SLOT????) Rachel Maddow hosts this fast-paced “radio magazine” full of information and insight. Rachel’s resume includes a doctorate in political science, a background in HIV/AIDS activism and as a regular liberal contributor on MSNBC’s “The Situation with Tucker Carlson.”

2A - 3A The Mark Riley Show (TOO EARLY FOR ME)
Former co-host of “Morning Sedition,” veteran newsman Mark Riley brings you a radio show full of news and analysis from a progressive point of view.

3A - 6A The Young Turks (NO INTEREST IN THESE TURKEYS)
It’s early morning energy from the Young Turks! Cenk Uyger, Ben Mankiewicz and Jill Pike host this politically edgy talk show. It’s smart! It’s funny! It’s free-wheeling! Perfect for the early riser…or the late night listener looking for a jolt!

6A – 9A Thom Hartmann and Heidi Tauber
AM 620 KPOJ features a brand new live, local morning show to its Progressive Talk line-up. Nationally syndicated talk host and best selling author, Thom Hartmann, hosts the KPOJ morning show weekdays from 6am-9am. Thom Hartmann comes to KPOJ from Vermont where he’s been hosting his own progressive talk radio show for the past two years. KPOJ listeners will know Thom from his days of filling in for Air America radio host, Randi Rhodes during the past few months. Hartmann is the award-winning, best-selling author of fourteen books currently in print in more than a dozen languages on four continents.
Joining Hartmann in the morning is veteran radio news anchor, Heidi Tauber. KPOJ has also added long-time radio news and talk show producer, Paul Pimentel, to the morning program.

9A – 12P The Sam Seder Show
Weekday evenings, Sam Seder takes an admittedly jaundiced look at the day's news, newsmakers, and the media. Sam is the co-author of "F.U.B.A.R. America's Right-Wing Nightmare" and has served as director for Comedy Central's "I'm With Busey."

12P – 3P The Ed Schultz Show
“Big Ed” has won Marconi, Peabody and The Eric Sevareid Awards. All this from a former conservative who became a liberal (“but not a wacko liberal”) because “…I basically got out in the world…”
Ed Schultz has delivered 20 shares on KFGO/Fargo for the past 15 years. He considers himself “…a gun-toting, meat-eating lefty.”

3P – 6P The Randi Rhodes Show
Randi’s legendary South Florida talk show (WIOD/Miami and WJNO/West Palm) is the PMD anchor for KPOJ. The program features commentary, interviews, call-ins and Randi’s trademark candor.
Randi is one of the first female political talk show hosts in the country. She started her radio career in Seminole, Texas and honed her skills in Milwaukee, Dallas and New York. Surprising fact: Randi was voted “Most Outstanding Woman” in the US Air Force in 1979.

6p - 9p The Sam Seder Show
Weekday evenings, Sam Seder takes an admittedly jaundiced look at the day's news, newsmakers, and the media. Sam is the co-author of "F.U.B.A.R. America's Right-Wing Nightmare" and has served as director for Comedy Central's "I'm With Busey."

9p - 12a Thom Hartmann - Nationwide!
In addition to hosting the local KPOJ morning show with Heidi Tauber, Thom Hartmann goes nationwide with a 3 hour talk-fest! It’s the “No Boring Zone” as Thom takes on the progressive issues facing our planet!

26. He was the only good thing left on KABC
Now, I will keep listening to Randi live on the internet (but can probably get a better connection
from the local station), and will have something other than the re-run for the drive home (There
is no way I would listen to Larry Elder or John and Ken to be "All Mexican-bashing, all the time!"]).

I guess he has to start using his real name if they hope to syndicate him, as he would only
be "Mr. K" for those stations west of the Mississippi (and I hate to think of what they would
have to call him East).

50,000 watts and it sounds like shit north of the SFV. In fact, I have great difficulty in picking it up at work in Sylmar near the 210/118 interchange. Radio propagation in mountainous areas sucks.

His move to the mid morning Pacific / after noon Eastern slot is back firing. Most of the AAR station are carrying Thom Hartman and putting Ed on later. He WAS live on KTLK in his old slot, but now Randi's got it!

I'm actually glad to see some changes. That means people that understand RADIO are in charge.

That's just about the only 3 hour block of time all day that I can't listen to due to sleep.

36. Marc Germain portrayed "Mr. KABC" at KABC and "Mr. KFI" at KFI
Very experienced talk show host, but much more moderate than the rest of the lineup. He was a pretty big Schwarzenegger supporter during the 2003 recall election, which was really disappointing. However, he is pretty knowledgeable and entertaining. I'm sad to see Ed Schultz get bumped all the way back to 7pm, though! I'll miss listening to him during lunch, even though I'll enjoy Randi Rhodes or Tom Hartmann, depending on how early I eat lunch. I'm really impressed with Hartmann!
