Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 07:42 PM by greenbriar
I once called my husband a jerk to his face...never before and never after

I had an x boyfriend call me a bitch...that is why he is an x boyfriend

additionally, I am always surprised when older people use language like that..

naive I know, but still surprised

3. Names don't bother me
The day I decided to divorce him, I put him on virtual 'ignore'. That to me spoke volumes over anything I could call him (or him, me).

5. I was regularly called a bitch
by my ex husband. Hence the EX.

I don't remember calling him names. I probably did an some point just out of sheer anger at the abuse. I do remember desperately trying to moderate arguments all the time. Ironically, so they didn't get "abusive."

:P

Yeah, that tactic worked real well. :sarcasm:

Worst thing I was ever called by one of my SOs: "stupid white woman" -- he was an American Indian.

8. I'm not much of a name caller.
When the wife and I argue it's usually very low key. No screaming, no name calling because it's idiotic.

10. In an incredibly drunken moment of utterly drunken exasperation
I told him he was one stupid m*therf*cker if he didn't know how drunk I was......

He laughed his ass off. (as it was already abundantly clear exactly how inebriated I was)

I think Ass (or jackass) is about the worst I've called him.

While I don't like abusive language, I come from a family that tends to say what's on it's mind and sometimes in very colorful terms. Intention is everything, so I tend to get angrier at snark or passive aggressive bullshit than heated language.

but when your husband gets drunk and abuses you, you just come to DU and whine about it?

Isn't this thread a lounge topic?

35. Umm.. C*nt? No. Sorry, that'd be a "get the f*ck out of my house" moment.
C*nt, Sl*t, or even the somehow quaint, whore..... out of bounds. I think if a man ever called me a whore, I'd laugh. What an incredibly stupid thing to call somebody.... it would have the same effect as calling me a prostitute. My response would likely be: WTF?

Bitch, bitchy, ass... not nice, but not irrevocable... especially since I can be rather....harsh sometimes.

13. "asshole."
I don't have a SO anymore, lol.

I have been called bitch and cunt by various men over the course of my life.

In my youth I was often called "slut" by other females.

I have also been called a best friend, a partner, and many other good things.

17. In almost 20 years of marriage we've never called each other names...
unless it's teasing or in good fun. Never during an argument. We both know some things can't be taken back so we're careful about what we say to each other. We come from broken homes where fights got nasty and have no desire to repeat any of that.

Other than that, I can't really think of any name-calling between us. We have a strong relationship (and, yes, I love her very much).

22. wow - I guess I do have the worst
"husband" in the world. My not-soon-enough-to-be-ex. Heck my never-should-have-married-him father of my children.

The language he uses to talk to me, about me, usually at top volume no matter where - well, let's just say they're all the kinds of words that are as nasty and mean as you can think of.

26. I've never in 27 years called my wife what McCain did
I've never called her a b****, either.

I've told her to f*** off a few times, and she has told me the same more than once.

Worst thing I was ever called was 'f*cking fagg*t' by two drunk guys who chased me up an alley because they didn't like my punk gear. That was 1978.

33. The relationship I want
is one where we don't name call when we are angry.

Being upset and angry is fine.

But not the name calling and not the intimidation and bullying tactics that were a regular feature of my first marriage.

Respect counts a lot with me.

Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 10:32 PM by csziggy
We respect each other and neither of us are the type to call names - even on people we detest.

I did throw him out once - but it only lasted a few days before I found him and asked him back. We celebrated our 30th anniversary together last summer so that was only a short term aberration.
