Be Thankful for Big Oil
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 09:01 AM by madinmaryland
:wtf: Glenn Beck --> http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/04/03/beck.oilexecs/index.html

NEW YORK (CNN) -- We all want to live in a world that's clean, healthy and prosperous.

We all want to hand that world off to our children in slightly better shape than we received it. No one, even the supposedly evil oil executive, has any reason to want anything different. But, for some reason, we find ourselves searching for villains. Surely they exist, but the endless quest to create them sometimes overwhelms our better judgment, whether intentional or not.

Congress has picked "Big Oil" as their enemy of the week. These companies inexplicably put profits above people, ravaging the environment and financially assaulting the poor to put another couple of dollars on their balance sheet. That's the storyline we've all been taught.

Yes, times are tough for many. Sure, oil companies make a lot of cash. But, for that money, they get us to work, get ambulances to the hospital, keep our homes warm, and employ thousands of our friends and neighbors while financing their retirement, paying their health care, and providing energy to millions. Because of capitalism, they have the incentive to do that. I've yet to see what our government does for us with their rather large chunk of each gallon of gas we buy, and I've yet to see them offer to return it or suggest a gas-tax-windfall-tax-tax.

The other villain of the moment is the global warming "denier." Anyone who disagrees, even in the slightest, must be ridiculed. On "60 Minutes" last weekend, Al Gore said: "They're almost like the ones who still believe that the moon landing was staged in a movie lot in Arizona and those who believe the Earth is flat. That demeans them a little bit, but it's not that far off."

..snip

Sorry for not putting a warning on this. And we wonder why this nation is where it is today.

:grr:

2. His first logical mistake was in his first two sentences.
"We all want to hand that world off to our children in slightly better shape than we received it. No one, even the supposedly evil oil executive, has any reason to want anything different."

Oh but they do have a reason to want something different.

They don't care how the world is handed off to our children. They just want to hand off a huge, excessive amount of our country's wealth to their own children, not to our children. They don't give a crap about anything or anyone but themselves, their profit, and their own children.

What incentive do they have to care about our children? What do they care and who is making them care about our children?

6. Oil Should Be Nationalized
since it is finite and wars are being waged just for it. I hate to think folks are dying for greedy people to make a profit or to steal a natural resource from another country. The act is totalitarian and evil.

8. He isn't alone in the brain dead department, heres what the brain dead in this state who
voted Bush twice say..............................................

You have no RIGHT to a cheap TV. And you have no RIGHT to cheap gas. If you feel the price is too high simply don't buy the stuff. The price in the UK have been this high for ten years. They have learned to deal with it. The market will regulate itself if we quit wasting the stuff. And please don't

Over Two years ago I posted on WNEM that people need to quit bitching about the price of gas and alter their lives to account for it. I did and the price is not affecting me one bit. In fact I am now spending less on gas then I did when it was 2$.

I will offer that advise again. Change your habits because bitching about the price will get you nowhere. Gas will never be 2$ ever again. Get use to it.

When the government buys the drilling equipment, hires the employees, extracts the oil, refines it and delivers it to the pumps than they will be in the business of oil; right now they are only sticking their noses into it.

If you were to argue that the oil monopolies had to be broken and that a more competitive environment was needed in order to reduce fuel prices than I'd be in agreement with your statements.

As it stands, Lower demand or greater supply will be the only two reasons companies lower prices. Increasing taxes is not going to result in a reduction at the retail pump. Reinstate the tax rates back to previous levels - prices will stay the same. Increase them even further and the price of gas will rise in parallel to the tax. Set price controls and the conglomerates will reduce production and supply issues will shut down the country.

Take a look at health care costs, grocery prices, the cost of recreation; everything has nearly doubled in the past 15 years. It sucks but we are not going to see gas below $2.50 - $2.75 again in our lifetime and more than likely gas will settle between $3-$4 a gallon.

These are the americans out there that let these types of things go on.
