Can't even properly say "Caucasian" in this context. There are Caucasian terrorists, just look at Chechnya.

"White" doesn't do it; lots of people have tried to define "white" in various ways. I use it as synonymous with "Caucasian" (in the less geographically precise racial sense). I'd probably call bin Laden "white". "Brown" has always struck me as a more recent racial category set up by people that deny the existence of race for coalition building, black and brown as opposed (or in opposition to) white.

I figure this bizarre bit of verbiage is playing off the quasi-racial "eastern", as in "eastern features" (not necessarily just New Jerseyan or Bostonian). Not obvious, though. Strikes me as a bit old fashioned.
