Gore's gonna do it. It's in the air.
I think Oscar night was a brilliant move, with Al's little tease about announcing. The psychological impact of that moment can't be overstated. Millions of Americans finished that sentence for him in their own words--a far more powerful psychological implanting process than if he had actually said it himself. Anyone familiar with Ericksonian indirect methods in hypnosis or the "leading" technique in neuro-linguistic programming will know what I mean.

The actual announcement won't come for a while, not before fall--won't come at all, in fact, unless there's a hunger for it, but that hunger is growing. And I think Al, and various people around him, have figured out some things on how to turn up the dial on that hunger. I know that whenever I get into a discussion about Dem contenders, people are very uncommitted and ambivalent about the available choices. But when I ask how they would feel about an Al Gore run, their faces brighten and they come on enthusiastic.

A strange and comforting thought occurred to me the other day. The Wingnuts have total control over television these days, but there is one major popular media machine that they don't control (even though they own it, they lack the control mechanisms). What is that machine? Hollywood--the movies, and all the associated Beautiful People paraphernalia (glamor & personality mags, starstruck tabloids, etc.). Those outlets reach a whole segment of the population that seems to be on first-name acquaintanceship with the stars, but is generally clueless about more serious goings-on. Gore is filling that channel with his presence. The Oscar story is everywhere, his star is rising, it's Love Story all over again.

2. Grumble
Seriously, I would love nothing more than Gore to be president. I just like the guy too much to see him trashed by the media all over again.

IN short, Gore is too nice of a guy to be president!

8. I also am sick of Al being trashed!
They keep calling him a hypocrite and go on about his huge energy bills.

Had Bush not stolen the presidency from Al Gore, 9/11 would have never happened! Gore would not have ignore the warnings!

13. Amen to that, KalicoKitty!
I also believe 9/11 would have never happened if Gore had not had the election stolen from him.

The whole world would have been better off under Gore. I hope he runs, wins, and goes after the bastards in power now.

18. In regards to his energy bills...
They are lumping his office with his home. His office employs several people...which makes his energy bill fairly reasonable considering there is also a data center there.

19. The mote in thy neighbors eye.
It's not hypocritical for Gore to speak about global warming. It IS hypocritical for GW to utter the words "democracy" or "freedom".

12. I don't think public is as willing to believe the trashings by the corpmedia as much.
I think enough of them are cognizant of the manipulations that led us to Bush presidency, Iraq war, and the media was a big part of it.

14. But the right-wing noise machine is going after him right now anyway
Based on the threat of him running and the obvious response he's getting from the public and the media. Everywhere you turn this last week you've seen Gore. And the right-wingers are truly scared (not the fake scared they are about Hillary).

As long as he's taking shots anyway, he might as well run. But it does make all kinds of sense to wait until fall to announce.

Let Hillary and the other contenders burn themselves out with overexposure. Then Al will step in and seem like a breath of fresh air.

9. About that tease...
you know, it occurs to me that if Big Al was all "nope really really not going to do it never no WAY" he most certainly would not have done that.

He also knows perfectly well about the rumors on the internets. I, for one, took the "Oscar Tease" as a big ol' shout-out to us out here, his fans. It may or may not just have been him having fun, a sort of nod of the head that says, "I see ya'll!" The practical effect of it, though, would be to make all of us Gore supporters sit up and pay attention, and he knows that perfectly well.

23. That's what started me on this line of thought.
But what about the idea of sidestepping conventional broadcasting & using "Hollywood" as the vehicle for his message? Does that make any sense at all? I'm the world's most culturally illiterate person who doesn't live in Chad, so I really can't judge something like that idea.

29. That is EXACTLY what I thought.
He knows that there are tons of us on the 'tubes who are dying for him to run. His loyalists. There is no way he would do that to us, even for a laugh.

He's too nice of a guy to lead on the very people who are begging him to run like that.

15. I usually hate watching the Oscars--but I watched because Al's movie was
nominated, and I thought he might be there. Even though I knew it was a gag, I got kind of tingly when he pulled out that piece of paper, I have to admit. But no--if Al's smart (and he is), he'll wait until after labor day to announce. Let the others beat each other up and get dragged through the shit by the dumbass corporate noozotainoganda machine. Let the speculation build. Drop a few hints here and there... Win a Nobel prize...

24. He'd get my enthusiastic vote!
I'm not at all excited about Hillary or Obama, I think Gore entering the race would steal all of their thunder.

He's the one guy I can get behind with heart and soul.

Otherwise I'd be holding my nose.

Much as I want to see a female president in my lifetime, I'm not a Hillary Fan, I think she'll do more harm then good if she gets the Nom. In fact the only people who want her to run are Republicans because nothing fires up their base like a the name Clinton.

With Obama I think he's too moderate for my taste. I know very little about him. Over all I just don't get excited about him.

So I bow to the wisdom of Forest Gump: RUN GORE RUN!

26. Hope
I have tremendous hope that he will run. I sympathize with the fact that he would have to exchange a very productive private life for the slings and arrows of another political campaign. But they've already thrown the kitchen sink at him (mixing in another metaphor) and he has simply forged ahead, proving that he has been right all along. He was right about the environment. He was right about the war. And he was right about Bush.

Just imagine: the day Al Gore took the oath as President, not just the country, but the whole world would give a big sigh of relief. The hatred that has grown against America would dissolve virtually in an instant.

27. Last night a caller told Malloy they had about 50,000 signatures

on the draftgore.com site. but like Mike said:

WE NEED 500,000 !!!

So we all need to get busy. Pass it along to all your friends and family. Let's get those votes.

Gore will take a lot more notice to 1/2 million sigs than 50,000 !!

GORE 44 !!!

31. GORE
I too was on the edge of my seat waiting for the announcement, then nothing, but Keith Olbermann
I think it was answered the question, why announce now, when the 2 supposedly 'main' candidates
ruff each other up, announce in Octobra or Novembra and get the momination............

Even tho I am still a Kerry supporter, Gore would be the front runner.........
