Man Hits Jackpot, but Won't Quit McDonald's
British Man Who Won Millions Wants to Keep His Job at the Golden Arches
Newly a millionaire, Luke Prittard just doesn't want to quit McDonald's. (ABC News) March 26, 2008

Luke Pittard didn't quite say "I'm lovin' it," but after winning a $2.7 million lottery he returned to his job flipping burgers at McDonald's.

Millionaire Burger FlipperPittard, 25, from Wales, England, became a millionaire after winning the British lottery 18 months ago. He promptly quit his McDonald's job.

"I don't think much will change in my life, just the fact that I got money," Pittard said at the time.

Things changed less than Pittard expected. Today, he is back at work at the Golden Arches.

1. That is actually common behavior
and the only thing that would change for me would be the ability to get my toys more often

34. It appears to me to be common as well
My dad is just about to retire at a company where many other people are retiring as well. Most of the people that are retiring are coming back to work in a few months and are working as temp employees. Many of these employees have worked for this company > 25 years. I think they just get so used to it as part of their daily routines that they feel weird without it.

35. yeah
my Dad retired for about 3 months before finding a part time job to keep him busy. There's only so much golf one person can do.

Me I believe if I won the lottery and left my job, I'd finally have that time I need to actually play my World of Warcraft Character.

2. Well at least its not because he blew all his dough.
"Even though Pittard makes more money on the interest from his winnings than he does showing up for work, he's still on the job simply because he's lovin' it."

9. My first assumption was that he'd blown through it, but it's nice
to know that he's actually managing it quite nicely! Sounds like a very well-grounded guy...good for him.

3. Quite frankly, if I won a big lottery I would keep a job, too!
I mean, you can only spend so much money before you become bored by it, right?

Even Oprah keeps going to work!

5. At the end of the day, it's good to do something with your time instead of just sitting around.
I would've spent my first year traveling the world and maybe the year after thinking about which venture to invest in or start my own. Firstly, I would've paid off all my student loan debts and put the rest into an interest-bearing account.

13. That's a pretty harsh (and baseless) assessment, don't you think?
We don't have any idea what this man is really like.

Personally, I think it speaks pretty highly of anyone that manages to keep it together after winning the lottery. Apparently he didn't blow it on strippers and mink lined britches, so more power to him if he wants to go back to some semblance of a normal life.

Just because he's not doing what *you* would do with millions of dollars does not make him an "artless, cultureless, boring dope."

22. you're joking right?
flipping burgers at mickey dee's is a job for high school students that need extra cash. now that this guy has got millions he still wants to do that job? jesus, step down so that some teenager can get in there and make a few extra bucks. do something creative and worthwhile with all that cash. you only live once.

yeah, he's a boring dope.

31. Have you been to McDonalds lately? More and more the people working
there are NOT teenagers. Around here we have often said it's a shame that the jobs usually taken by teens are now seniors who can't make it on ss, or maybe he just likes the camaraderie.

23. Gee, thanks for your insight
Look, it makes the guy happy. Whats your problem? He's influencing the people around him by demonstrating that money isn't everything, and that hard work still has some value. I guess not everyone is as "enlightened" and sophisticated as you are.

And who is to say that he still can't do wonderful things with his lottery money.

19. And I say, "good for him!"
Believe it or not, some people actually LIKE working in fast food. The problem is, it doesn't pay shit.

But if you've got a million quid parked in an interest-bearing account, you can afford to work at McDonald's PLUS not subsist on ramen, live in your mum's basement, or walk to work every day no matter how hard the rain's coming down. You can also help your coworkers move out of their mums' basements, if you like.

Oh...and Wales ain't in England. It's one of the four countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) of the United Kingdom.

30. At least he really won.
I read about a couple who "won" the lottery. That weekend they threw a big party. Come Monday, when they went to collect their winnings, they discovered they were off by one digit. Oops. The party put them $10,000 in debt.
