Where did your local paper put the collapsing ice shelf story?
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had it on 9A and didn't devote much space to it.

Here are the stories ahead of it and larger:

--Saudi king urges interfaith talks
--Flaws hinder high-tech census
--France could skip opening of Olympics
--Group cites waste of Afghan aid funds

The collapse of a giant ice shelf, in light of everything else that's happening to the environment, seems a tad more crucial than those other stories.

What importance did your local paper assign this event?

3. I have yet to see any graphic that shows the true scale of the ice shelf
That satellite photo they show on TV makes it look about the size of a football field.

The area that broke off is 400 square kilometers, the total wilkins ice shelf is 13000 square km.

However, this collapse and the on e more to the north lead to only a very narrow strip of ice connecting to the antartctic peninsula, and it is the only barrier to a further collapse...

9. Thanks for the graphic.
I know how big it is, but the MSM makes it look much smaller. They never give the scale.

11. Page A-17 . . .
Though they did give a little blurby splash of color in a box on the front page (way down at the bottom).
