This has been posted before, but it is worth posting again (end this war)

The night before the burial of her husband's body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of "Cat," and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. "I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it," she said. "I think that's what he would have wanted."

1. That was one of the most moving pics I've ever seen.

2. And in the USA, this Marine's death went unreported.

Tonight, on Hockey Night in Canada, during the first intermission, they closed with a segment about a Canadian soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

They showed his picture, they mentioned his wife and 2 year old daughter, and how she would never see her dad again. They mentioned it was his 3rd tour.

Don Cherry was the announcer, and all they showed on the screen as he talked about it was the picture of the soldier. And you could tell Don was upset. If you know Don's antics, you know how boisterous he gets. But when he's upset, you can hear it very plainly in his voice. He was devastated.

And it pisses me off to no end that on the national channel, during the national hockey game (Leafs / Senators), that they spent a little time to talk about the loss of one of their guys. And here, our national media worries about the dumbest damn stuff and you'd never know that anybody got hurt or killed over there today.

I posted a thread about it earlier tonight, and it got 35 views, 2 recs, no replies, and it sunk off the page. The threads about passports and reverends and shadow banks get hundreds of looks. Maybe it is only a few of us who care about what's going on over there.

It's so sad. Thanks for keeping the reminders coming about what is really important, and how it's affecting people.

3. Toss out the link here
The wife loves hockey and hates the war, she and I can give it a well deserved kick (though she won't be home until tomorrow).

I didn't kick it because I was hoping other people would think it was important, and maybe comment on the US media's inability to tell the stories that are important.

If we were seeing this in the news every night, Senators McCain, Clinton and Obama would all have to actually talk about war. Not reverends or old acquaintances o gaffes.

War. The thing that has killed 4000+ Americans, and thousands and thousands of Iraqis.
