Owner charged with felony after dog found dead in Omaha yard

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

The Magisana kids felt sorry for Hulk, a dog who lived in their north Omaha neighborhood.

He cried and whimpered; he was chained up all the time and his ribs showed, they said.

Sophia and Grace Magisana's sympathy turned to sadness one day last month when they peeked at Hulk through the bushes and saw that he wasn't moving. He was dead.

"He was laying on the ground, half-buried in the snow," said Sophia, 10.

And now, Hulk's owner, Keion L. Shelton, 26, has become the first person in Douglas County to be charged with a felony in connection with animal cruelty.

Last year, the Nebraska Legislature unanimously approved a bill making it a felony to intentionally or recklessly abandon or neglect a pet if it results in serious injury, illness or death. Mark Langan, vice president of field operations for the Nebraska Humane Society, said the Humane Society investigates about 10 such animal cruelty cases a year.

2. Stories like this break my heart. I have 2 dogs and I volunteer at the local dog shelter.
They are such loving animals don't deserve cruelty like this. :(

7. Guilt?
he has no fucking guilt. The only guilt he feels is that he will go to jail. He never gave a shit about the dog.

8. You're probably right. Clearly, there is those that can not be salvaged.
But I'm always hopeful that someday the misguided will awaken and realize the misery that they have caused.

Regards, Mugu

I wouldnt count on it. I live in Alabama. Everywhere I drive I see road kill dogs. I would not sell a puppy to any of the assholes that live in this state.

4. Saddens me. Dogs are so caring and loving.
Instincively now, when I hear a story like this, I think "probably voted for Bush in 2004", even though I have no proof.

Anyone else have this reaction?

I think that Bush appeals to people with no honest concept of right and wrong.

5. I don't believe in hell but I hope I'm wrong and there is a special place there for
people who abuse dogs...or any animals for that matter. :grr:
