1. Snopes says it's true - I'm willing to believe Snopes.
Gore's house is a big one.

2. Keep in mind, Bush's house was built during 2000 so he'd have a place he could say
was 'down home'. So of course it has all the latest tech in it. Sure, Gore's using far too much energy for a single family, I won't argue that.

9. It's a prop..a set.. and he's not even going to keep it after he bugs out
It was built where it is, so he could escape..not so he could go "home".. He HAS no "home"..

He mooched off the people of Texas, as their governor, for 8 years..and before that, probably off his Mommy & Daddy.

The Crawdad "home" was just a place he chose, so that the press would be as uncomfortable as possible when they followed him "home"..

3. Are we talking about miniCaligula's pig farm?
Edited on Sat Mar-15-08 06:29 PM by Kutjara
If so, what's important to understand is that it's a PR stunt. I believe it was purchased either during or shortly before his presidential campaign, and was expressly designed to show off Chimpy's "man of the land" credentials. "Why lookit' here folks, I'm jus' a good ol' country boy, same as the rest o' ya." Presumably, his handlers felt a 5 brazillion square foot chateau in Kennebunkport wouldn't really jibe with the "homespun values" message.

Hiring the "green" architect was intended to stave off criticism that Shrub was an oil company flunky. "Hey, I understand the environment. See, I live in a green house."

Like everything else with *, it's all form, no substance.

drilling a bunch of holes and plumbing them isn't exactly trivial.

Gores house is an antique, and according to what I've heard, a work in progress in getting it energy efficient.

22. And he is constantly upgrading it to be more energy efficient.
He is adding solar panels, and he and Tipper work from home, so it is also their office, and they get green dollars for not having to commute in to work. These are some of the things I've read about Gore's family home.

12. Email I got pictured the Bush ranch house as a little frame structure. Ha.
Knowing that it wasn't the correct picture, I sent the snopes.com page to the right winger that sent me the garbage.

I don't know when Gore's house was built, but GWB's house was designed and built in 2001 by an architect who was knowledgable of green technology. Gore's house looks like it may have been built as early as the 30s. If he has the money, he should make an attempt to resolve some of the energy issues, as all of us would. Making my 30s house more enery efficient is a major undertaking that I can't afford.

31. The littler framed structure is the guest house
It's where Condi usually stays or heads of state of foreign governments. Bushie learned this trick from LBJ who created his ranch persona to separate himself from the racism in the south. LBJ you see was a "western rancher" not a "southern farmer". He was neither, he was actually a school teacher.

13. I just googled the Nashville house and it is 100 years old. Al had the
addition on the back curved to avoid cutting down the trees that grew in the back. He just could not do it (cut them down.) Obviously 100 year old houses need a lot of updating to get energy efficiency.

15. I got this from my brother-in-law
he's no right-winger, think he sent it to me because he was curious of my response (also sent it to one of his friends who works in solar energy).

I wish Gore would walk more of the talk, ditto with Edwards jumbo house. I can't find my really long response to him, but I think my main points were

old vs. new construction as someone pointed out above.

tone of the article (Bush is "nestled on a prairie"??? I wouldn't call West Texas prairie). etc. etc.

The article goes on about # of rooms (Gore's has 20!). In an older house like Gore's the rooms may be small, but it sounds scary. (My BIL's old Victorian has 12 rooms, many of them very small). Gore's sq. ft are too big.

4000 sq. ft. is still a damn big house and nothing to brag about.

To imply that Bush saving on his personal energy bill makes up for his environmental record is absurd. Consider how much he and Cheney made and will make in the energy industry - and NOT in renewables, efficiency, etc.

Crawford, which is about 20 miles west of Waco, is in the central part of East Texas, an area that is, in fact, largely prairie land.

his home. The home was in the middle of a long, costly green renovation when this global warming denier group attacked. It was slanted to portray Gore in the worst of light. It made no mention of the age of the home, or that he was buying carbon offsets. It also doesn't take into account that it is not just a home but a business with employees. Since then Gore has added solar collectors to his roof and other green technology. NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Al Gore, who was criticized for high electric bills at his Tennessee mansion, has completed a host of improvements to make the home more energy efficient, and a building-industry group has praised the house as one of the nation's most environmentally friendly.

(The nuts repsonses)

The home was in the middle of a long, costly green renovation when this global warming denier group attacked. It was slanted to portray Gore in the worst of light
(isn't that what they do when they talk about Bush; also leave out a lot of facts that contradict their statements).

It made no mention of the age of the home, or that he was buying carbon offsets
(evry rich person knows that the most effective way to stop polution is to purchase carbon offsets).

It also doesn't take into account that it is not just a home but a business with employees (if is is 10,000 sq.ft. I am sure it takes several employees to run it)

Since then Gore has added solar collectors to his roof and other green technology. The numbers they provide claims to be from Nashville Electric Service, but utility spokesmen said they got no request for that info (maybe someone was dumpster diving).
