NO, thank you John Conyers!
www.johnconyers.com Earlier this week, I asked you to join Senator Leahy and me to make your voices heard on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) legislation in the House. The right-wing attack machine had targeted a number of our Democratic Members with misleading ads that substituted fear-mongering for facts. We needed your help to push back against this campaign of misinformation before today's vote on the floor of the House.
And you helped out tremendously.
Over 1,600 of you submitted editorials to your local papers. You sent the message to your Members of Congress that our surveillance of suspected terrorists has not wavered and that telecommunications companies do not need blanket retroactive immunity to help our intelligence services with these activities.
Your voices were heard.
The House today passed its FISA bill. This bill allows us to aggressively pursue terrorists while protecting the civil rights and liberties of all Americans. Most of the Members of Congress targeted by the right-wing ads rejected its scare tactics and joined us on this crucial vote.
Thank you for your help this week. You made a difference.
Sincerely,
John Conyers
Chairman
House Judiciary Committee
