I guess I just feel bad for Spitzer and his family.
It's hard for me to be angry or engage in much schadenfreude. I'm not saying that to make myself out as perfect, because I'm sure as shit anything but that. Rather, I've had issues with sexual compulsivity for a long time. I won't go into details, but suffice it to say some of the choices that I have made have caused a great deal of pain to those that I love and those that love(d) me.

It's not for me to say whether or not he has a problem himself, though I'd imagine that spending 80K on prostitutes is a good indicator. Regardless, I just hope he's able to find some sort of help for his issues and is able to make amends to his family. I just hate to see families torn apart by this sort of thing...I've seen it happen too many times.

She did not deserve it.

2. If he had that low of regard for her, he might better
have divorced her and left her dignity intact.

3. Sometimes it's not about having a low regard for someone...
I guess I know that from personal experience.

4. I would, if he hadn't made a career out of busting people for doing the same
I feel for his wife and the kids.

5. People make choices.
He made the wrong choices.

Unfortunately it is his wife that pays the most for his poor choices.

7. Never feel sorry for anyone that owns a plane...
I think I heard that in a movie...it's fits well in most cases.

8. His family I feel sad for..
but it's hard for me to have any sympathy for him. He made his choices, over and over, knowing what the consequences for his career and family could be. It's almost sociopathic behavior. The whole of his activities seems driven by a need to control and manipulate, not so much about sexual desire.

9. at least your post is honest. thank you. i can agree with this
it is all the playing around that this is ok, normal, right, respectable,...... you can admit that because of the issues you have how it does hurt people, probably yourself included. it is not a free ride here.

10. sex addiction is like other addictions ,it's a problem that needs serious help
and it's clear to me he has an addiction problem.

i'm impressed with your candor and thank you for the post.

for the record Larry Craig and Bill clinton in my opinion also have sex addiction problems. The problem is even losing his job may not be enough for Spitzer, a thick headed man, to get help. I hope it is, but doubtful. and then he'll likely try to wiggle back into the democratic nomination somewhere but I think that too is something we don't want until he admits his addiction and fixes it.

11. well 80K over several years for Spitzer is like $800 to regular folk

If money is your only indication of sexual compulsivity, then I think your argument is weak.

15. No. Also the fact that he was in a public position where if it came out...
it would be very harmful, also the fact that he had a family, etc etc.

16. Since the editing time is expired...
I also wanted to clarify that I don't know whether or not Spitzer has a problem, and it's not my place to say whether he does or not.

13. Thanks, Varkam.
I think it is going to be very difficult for Spitzer. We don't know why he was involved in the alleged behavior that cost him his governorship. We do know that he craves limelight and power and has been in the limelight and had lots of power for a number of years. Now he is going from 100 to 0 in a matter of a few days. The loss of his power is probably going to be a profound change in his life--one that he may not be able to cope with without a lot of support and professional assistance. It is not going to manifest itself immediately. It will emerge over time. I hope he and his family are able to deal with this without totally stressing out. I say that, not because I condone Eliot Spitzer's choices, but because he certainly had the brains to do great things.
