What I Despise
Certainly NOT America. I don't hate this place, I believe in its promise. Probably more than I should, considering it has NEVER fulfilled its promise to its people.

But I certainly despise the use to which its men and women have been put, the uses to which its economic strength has been put, and the uses to which its military and intelligences have been put. We've allowed our country to be a bully, to push our alleged "democracy" on countries that, had they wanted it, would have fought for it themselves. We've propped up dictators, and financed revolutions, and pissed on the heads of the people of so many lands we've lost count.

I despise the people who'd tell us that "freedom" is freedom to starve, and freedom to die of illness and/or injury, all for the lack of money or health benefits. I despise the fact that millions of people are shoved into our penal hellholes for crimes that aren't crimes, simply because they're easy targets. I despise the fact that slime in human suits build immense fortunes on the day-to-day suffering of people who, even after how far we've come, are drawn into these pits of human despair predominately because of the color of their skin.

I despise the people who think that they deserve this sort of treatment, that all the other things that go along with being cast into this pit are their just reward.

I despise those who look down at others because of social or economic class, or because of the color of their skin or the nationality of their ancestors.

I despise those who believe they have a right to feed off of others, to steal bits and pieces of the lives of those less fortunate than themselves to put jingle in their pockets and rocks on their fingers and designer fashions on their over-stuffed asses. Those that exploit others in order to increase their own net worth and give as little back as possible. Who screech and scream about paying their fair share of taxes given that they gain the most from the system those taxes support.

I despise the mealy-mouthed, condescending assholes who sit behind polished desks and pontificate about the problems that confront us without EVER venturing out into the real world to see the suffering that happens below their radar. The Hannitys, the O'Reilly's, and the Limbaughs of the world. The people who feed on human suffering by minimizing it. Great, grasping parasites in human suits, every last one of them.

I despise the elected officials who use their office as a way to gain even more than they already have, who consume what they like on the taxpayer's dime and have the nerve to spit in the face of those who support them by denying them basic consideration when the time comes to make a choice--who allow the whispered words and riffle of cash to make their choices for them.

I despise those who prop up a facade of American superiority and then do nothing to make it into something to genuinely be proud of.

No, I don't hate America. I just hate some of the fat assholes feeding off the corpses of its expiring ideals, all the while cheering its virtues and ignoring its faults.

America doesn't belong to the likes of them. And neither do WE. America belongs to all of us and it's about time all the promises that were made to us are finally realized, or, at the very least, someone actually works hard to deliver on those promises.

When the Dems take the White House and gain a solid majority in the House and Senate, I expect them to behave as if they're representing US, as if their promise of being of the Party of the People actually means something.

If they don't...

Well, 2010 isn't all that far away. And 2012 is just a short distance beyond that. If I have to I'll make it my business to tear every single one of them down and leave them standing their in their Emperor's New Suit, their avarice and hypocrisy visible to the world.

See if I don't.

1. Couldn't read your post. "Despise" repels me, somehow.
Whatever you are unhappy with, I suggest getting a grip on it - nothing is going to chage.

6. What does that have to do with the price of coffee?
I didn't say "hate." I said "despise." I avoided the word "hate" because it has specific connotations that do not truly define how I feel.

The dictionary.com definition of Despise is:

to regard with contempt, distaste, disgust, or disdain; scorn; loathe.

The dictionary.com definition of hate is:

to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward; detest: to hate the enemy; to hate bigotry.

"Hate" can be a synonym for despise, but it also suggests hostility and a potential for violence that I do not believe "despise" does. "Despise," to me, suggests an urge to avoid, while "hate" suggests an urge to attack.

5. Hating "Fat Assholes" in an anti-bigotry rant
"I despise those who look down at others because of social or economic class, or because of the color of their skin or the nationality of their ancestors."

vs.

"No, I don't hate America. I just hate some of the fat assholes feeding off the corpses of its expiring ideals, all the while cheering its virtues and ignoring its faults."

Isn't that kind of a poor example or choice of words?

"Fat" and "Gay" are probably the most common epithets of this kind. We tend to make them without really paying attention. But at least we should make the effort to stop.

8. Touchy subject really
I thought it was a fantastic post OP! Spoke well for my own heart. Thank you.

I really really don't want to sidetrack here, and although insulting labels are definately NOT good, there is a clear difference between Fat and Gay. One is a choice (unless you have a thyroid or some other disorder), one is inborn. Ok true some have a MUCH harder time staying fit than others who are genetically lucky, but having travelled fairly extensively there really aren't very many overweight people in the world outside of the UK, US, and Austrailia.

And I'm none too slim. But I choose to sit on the internet instead of getting out there and rock climbing. I choose to order a cheeseburger instead of a salad. It's simple thermodynamics. I eat, I sit, I gain weight.

So yeah perhaps we should be more sensitive, but perhaps we should be more sensitive to smokers and chronic masterbaters as well? I guarantee when you refer to someone as a "wanker" in a crowded room, someone cringes inside in shame :P I think PC ends where choice begins.... or maybe that's an over generalizing statement? Who knows!

More wine for me!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOooooooHOOoooooo

10. I meant it as an analogy, as I said in my reply to the other...
If the "fat assholes" in question are feeding off the dying body of America, what does that truly suggest? Would it have been different if I said "bloated?" Of course, it wouldn't quite suggest the same thing.

:)

Okay? Millions of people. Most of them are undiagnosed.

9. It's a fair threat.
But it only works if we are VERY serious about primary challenges.

11. That's true.
We'd have to pick only the best, and come up with a real network to support them in opposition to the power-players in the Party itself.
