WHNT-TV (Huntsville AL) APOLOGIZES FOR SIEGELMAN BLACKOUT...
We apologize that you missed the first segment of 60 Minutes tonight featuring "The Prosecution of Don Siegelman."

It was a techincal(sic) problem with CBS out of New York. We are working with them right now to see if we can re-broadcast the segment.

Please be patient with us during this time. We are doing our best to correct the problem.

23. Botany - What you don't understand is that
there are teeny-tiny magical creatures in the air around the Huntsville station that sometimes block reception from NY -- and the same creatures sometimes hang out in cables and internet tubes, too.

Yep. Thas it. Fer sure. Rlly.

And the fact that the Siegelman story is about Don Siegelman's election win being stolen out from underneath him just hours after he had gone to bed after being told he had won -- that is why this is such a very sore spot for the Bushies.

I guess the owners of southern TV stations don't want people to know how corrupt the Alabama GOP is.

For those on the left coast, it's the first segment and they did a good job of it.

What bullshit. Of all places, I'm surprised it happened in Huntsville, which is one of the more progressive communities in Alabama.

Of course, considering the alternative ...., that's not saying much.

24. WHNT is owned by Lee Bass.....

To finance the Bahrain venture, Harken got $25 million from the oil-rich Bass family. Two of the Bass brothers were part of "Team 100," the elder Bush's elite 1988 fundraising squad that was the model for the younger Bush's more ambitious fundraising "Pioneers" (Lee Bass also is a Pioneer).

Bass money and Bush connections did not lead Harken to oil in Bahrain. The company's stock tanked after it reported huge losses in August 1990. (Multinational Monitor)

35. UPDATE:
February 24, 2008

We apologize that you missed the first segment of 60 Minutes tonight featuring a report titled, "The Prosecution of Don Siegelman."

NewsChannel 19 lost our program feed from CBS. Upon investigation, WHNT has learned that the CBS receiver that allows us to receive programming from CBS failed. WHNT engineers responded as quickly as possible to restore the feed at 6:12 p.m.

Our sincere apologies to our viewers across the Tennessee Valley.

To correct the problem, we will re-air the broadcast of that segment during NewsChannel 19 at 10 Sunday night.

You can also watch the interview on the CBS website.

http://www.whnt.com/Global/story.asp?S=7918345

I don't know when they put this message up, but I checked at 9:55 PM, and it wasn't up. So the 10:00 PM rebroadcast (if it happened) was for all intents and purposes, unannounced.

Quite a story. I hope something is done about it now. This man does not deserve to be in prison at all, meanwhile all the republicans doing various illegal things are untouched, free to go about spending the money they've stolen from others.

39. They are lying ! Scott Horton @ Harpers double checks with CBS
Off the Air in Alabama
I am now hearing from readers all across Northern Alabama—from Decatur to Huntsville and considerably on down—that a mysterious “service interruption” blocked the broadcast of only the Siegelman segment of 60 Minutes this evening. The broadcaster is Channel 19 WHNT, which serves Northern Alabama and Southern Tennessee. This station was noteworthy for its hostility to Siegelman and support for his Republican adversary. The station ran a trailer stating “We apologize that you missed the first segment of 60 Minutes tonight featuring ‘The Prosecution of Don Siegelman.’ It was a techincal problem with CBS out of New York.” I contacted CBS News in New York and was told that “there is no delicate way to put this: the WHNT claim is not true. There were no transmission difficulties. The problems were peculiar to Channel 19, which had the signal and had functioning transmitters.” I was told that the decision to blacken screens across Northern Alabama “could only have been an editorial call.” Channel 19 is owned by Oak Hill Capital Partners, who can be contacted through Rhonda Barnat, 212-371-5999 or [email protected]. Oak Hill Partners represents interests of the Bass family, which contribute heavily to the Republican Party. Viewers displeased about the channel’s decision to censor the broadcast should express their views directly to the station management or to the owners.
