Newsweek: NYPD concerned Iranian agents targeting NYC

New York: Targeted By Tehran?
Newsweek

March 5, 2007 issue - Increasing tensions between Washington and Tehran have revived New York Police Department concerns that Iranian agents may already have targeted the city for terror attacks. Such attacks could be aimed at bridges and tunnels, Jewish organizations and Wall Street, NYPD briefers told security execs last fall, according to a person with access to the briefing materials who asked for anonymity because of the sensitive subject matter.

NYPD officials have worried about possible Iranian-sponsored attacks since a series of incidents involving officials of the Iranian Mission to the United Nations. In November 2003, Ahmad Safari and Alireaza Safi, described as Iranian Mission "security" personnel, were detained by transit cops when they were seen videotaping subway tracks from Queens to Manhattan at 1:10 in the morning. The men later left New York. "We're concerned that Iranian agents were engaged in reconnaissance that might be used in an attack against New York City at some future date," Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly told NEWSWEEK. A spokesman for the Iranian Mission in New York said he was aware of the allegations but had no immediate comment.

2. Oh, bank on it
As soon as Bush starts his little air war his prediction of us fighting them over here might actually come to pass. I'm beginning to think that's what this maniac wants. What better way to rally the dumb populace of the U.S. to want full genocide against arabs and muslims. See the movie "The Seige" for a fictional reference of potential real world fun that will ensue.

6. The fucked up thing is that
For a terrorist attack to be effective they was the highest casualty rate.... biggest bang for the buck, so to speak. So of course very dense urban areas are the logical choice. Urban areas tend to be the MOST democratic, so they target the people most likely to try and reign in the madman in the whitehouse.

I don't go with the theory that every mention of a terrorist attack is just a scare tactic. NYC knows more then anyone that they need to keep thier eyes and ears open. In my opinion it seems very illogical to believe that with the absolute mayhem, death and destruction we have rained down upon the middle east that another attack won't happen, especially if we hit Iran. They don't have the military to hit us here at home, so one of the easiest ways to hurt us would be through terrorism. The war in the middle east has made us LESS safe then ever before.

9. What would Iran have to gain?
They know they would be bombed back into the Stone Age. The only people who benefit are Bush-Cheney.

10. Actually I meant after we bomb the crap out of them
My point is that tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of people have seen their loved ones blown to shit in front of their eyes. If you look ahead to Iran being bombed then that adds god only knows how many more. It's just a matter of time until they push back at us where it hurts.

My post was more about why I don't blow off every report (except the WH ones), especially from NYC, rather then the Iranian connection.

7. We're ALL being targeted -- for Bu$hco's Propganda
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 10:14 AM by brg5001
Thanks for posting. Looks like Bu$hco's plan to spread the fear virus is working fabulously. Commissioner Kelly should focus on policing the city rather than serving as this week's useful idiot for "Vice"-President Cheney's anti-Iran propaganda. Also: Note that in the event of a terror attack, no real investigation will take place once blame is fixed on Iran. And of course, with our first responders tied down in the Iraq quagmire, the city is less safe. The neo-cons know the clock is ticking and will try to win support for their twisted plans to attack Iran by any means necessary.

13. Working with whom?
BTW, have they offered any suggestions as to what "they" can attack that will kill MORE than three thousand people? Because if it's any less...ain't nobody gonna be impressed.

And, unto you all who see terrorist cells on every corner, I say: WHERE ARE THE CARBOMBS?

12. Well, if we go blow their shit up, in a war, it is pretty normal for
the other side to come blow our shit up.

We are threatening to blow their shit up.

Why is anyone surprised by this?

16. That future date would be AFTER the U.S. attacks Iran
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 12:27 PM by Tom Rinaldo
All this fear mongering is being used to promote war with Iran, and of course it has everything ass backwards. The greatest potential threat to New York by Iranian agents will come after we attack Iran, not before it. Want homeland security? It's just like Wes Clark says. We need more friends in the world and less enemies.

We need to mobilize a peace offensive and we need to mobilize it now. I don't want to mobilize against an Iran war after it has started. I've been down that road too many times in my life and watched too many people die while we've struggled to end a war that could have much more easily have been prevented.

We have been given fair warning on this one. We can mobilize now to stop this war or we can mobilize later to protest it. It's one or the other.

Please go to StopIranWar.com and join the campaign against the march to war with Iran: http://www.stopiranwar.com /
