27. Way to Go Al and company!
Pick up a nobel and then go to the White House.

"DELAND, Fla., Nov. 11 - Something very strange happened on election night to Deborah Tannenbaum, a Democratic Party official in Volusia County. At 10 p.m., she called the county elections department and learned that Al Gore was leading George W. Bush 83,000 votes to 62,000. But when she checked the county's Web site for an update half an hour later, she found a startling development: Gore's count had dropped by 16,000 votes, while an obscure Socialist candidate had picked up 10,000--all because of a single precinct with only 600 voters."

Global warming/climate change is THE issue of our time. Like our sadly misplaced fear of communism, I hope everyone lives and breathes environmental sustainability for the next 100 years (if we have that long).

The producer of a film, ANY film, accepts the Best Picture award. It has always been so. Gore was not a producer, which means he will not be getting a statue.

Guggenheim was the producer of the film.

54. AP article: Gore's Global Warming Doc Wins Oscar
Gore's global warming doc wins Oscar
By GARY GENTILE, Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES - The documentary that turned former vice president Al Gore's power-point presentation on global warming into an engaging and entertaining film won the Oscar Sunday night.

- snip -

"My fellow Americans," Gore said to laughter from the crowd. "People all over the world, we need to solve the climate crisis. It's not a political issue, it's a moral issue. We have everything we need to get started with the possible will to act. That's a renewable resource. Let's renew it."

- snip -

"My fellow Americans, I'm going to take this opportunity right here and now, to formally announce my intentions to ..." Gore said before the orchestra broke in and he walked off, arm-in-arm and laughing, with DiCaprio.

- snip -

"It is the overriding world challenge of our time," Gore said. "I really hope the decision by the academy to honor the work by director Davis Guggenheim and these producers will convince people who did not go see it before to see the movie and learn about the climate crisis and become a part of the solution."
