Editor and Publisher's Editor Greg Mitchell Has New Book On Media & Iraq: "So Wrong For So Long"
It has a preface by Bruce Springsteen! (Mitchell was an editor at Crawdaddy in 1973 when they published the first major publication article about Springsteen): "In his brief preface titled "Tell the Truth from Lies," Springsteen notes, "Greg Mitchell's 'So Wrong for So Long' goes a long way toward correcting some of the misconceptions that the media haven’t been ready to deal with...."

New Book on Iraq and the Media by 'E&P' Editor Out Soon

By E&P Staff

Published: February 19, 2008 9:55 AM ET

NEW YORK A unique look at media coverage of the Iraq war, from 2002 to the present, written by E&P's editor, Greg Mitchell, will be published in March. Called "So Wrong for So Long: How The Press, the Pundits -- and the President -- Failed on Iraq," it features a preface by Bruce Springsteen and a foreword by Joseph L. Galloway, the legendary war reporter and co-author of"We Were Soldiers Once...and Young." The book can be ordered at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com now.

Mitchell calls the book, which collects and significantly expands on about 80 of his columns which first appeared here at E&P Online, the first true history of the entire war, from the "runup" to the "surge" debate in recent months.

The pieces appear chronologically, with material between each column explaining what was transpiring in the war and in the media coverage during that period. In this way it offers a running commentary on the conflict in Iraq and within the media during a five year era. So readers can follow the controversies surrounding Judith Miller, Pat Tillman, Donald Rumsfeld, "Scooter" Libby and even Stephen Colbert, among many others, from beginning to end.

Remarks by early reviewers follow. You can order the book at Amazon here

"Greg Mitchell has given us a razor-sharp critique of how the media and the government connived in one of the great blunders of American foreign policy. Every aspiring journalist, every veteran, every pundit—and every citizen who cares about the difference between illusion and reality, propaganda and the truth, and looks to the press to help keep them separate—should read this book. Twice."
— Bill Moyers

"In war truth is too often the first casualty, and it is not just a President or a Secretary of Defense or assorted official spokesmen who do the killing. Our brothers and sisters in the media also participate in the execution. Greg Mitchell has taken that as his lesson and in so doing has done a service to future generations in our business."
--Joseph L. Galloway, famed military reporter and co-author, "We Were Soldiers Once...and Young"

"Anyone who cares about the integrity of the American media should read this book. Greg Mitchell asks tough questions about the Iraq war that should have been asked long ago, in a poignant, patriotic, and thoughtful dissection of our war in Iraq. Mitchell names names and places blame on those who’ve blundered. Examining the most complex issue of our time, he connects the dots like no one else has."
— Paul Rieckhoff, Executive Director, Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America and author of "Chasing Ghosts"

2. Most interesting quote from Paul Rieckhoff - "Mitchell names names and
places blame on those who've blundered."

I bet a lot of those names have been singled out here, too. They know who they are. And so do we. And GOOD that he's naming names. I hope so. These people need to be dragged out into the town square, and tarred and feathered. They are every bit as much to blame for the mess we're in both internationally and domestically as bushco is. They were uniquely positioned to be able to stop it, or at least slow it down, or at the very least tell the truth about it. AND THEY DID NOTHING.

And they called US enablers and appeasers and traitors and Neville Chamberlains.

I hope we get a whole lot of books like these. These people are accomplices, and accessories to ALL of the bush/cheney crimes.
