It's easy enough to preach rhetoric from an on-line soapbox but let's face it, we're not on the front lines of politics, fighting terrorism or the occupation of Iraq. It's easy to become numb. The news - if you can call it that - is mind-numbing.
Those on the front lines lack the luxury of lackadaisical attitudes. They do what is necessary to get the mission completed. We write on FISA. All the NSA hopes is that their number one tool for combating terrorism will be extended a few more months. We write on the occupation of Iraq. All our troops hope is that someone will care enough to bring them home. We write on politics. All our politicians hope for is another term in office. Those politicians aren't all bad; just mostly bad.
All I hope is that those of us voting left of center maintain focus and not succumb to mind numbing media. Unlike politicians, let's keep our eye on the ball. Focus on the real issues. Lots of people are dying in Iraq. Others are being raped and tortured. Our government condones every atrocity committed. It's time to wake up. The nightmare will end when America screams in unison that we're not going to take it anymore.
