Poll question: Who do you think John McCain will choose as his running mate?
I know it is about six months away. But I feel like making a poll anyway.

These are my first 9 guesses. What are yours?

20. Bushiness
Are there any available bushes that someone can dig up? Now that is a scary thought.

7. I Won't Vote for McCain Either, But I Care a Great Deal Who he Chooses
If he chooses Fuckabee and he wins the election, then Fuckabee is a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

16. Crist= Moderate Republican.. Not a good match because McCain needs fundie shore up help.
He will infuriate the base even more by electing middle of the Road Charlie. I personally wish the Democrats had more talent in Florida. Outside of Bill Nelson, we are really limited in people that have the potential to rise to the Lawton Chiles and Bob Graham level of Democrats.

30. Conservatives will vote R anyway... the Repugs are experiencing
the cognitive dissonance of TRIANGULATION, but they will get over it... Dobson and Co. have already rejected McCain. The Club For Growth types are promoting such notable trolls as Phil Graham of TX and Steve Forbes. They are completely clueless. McCain, I think, will make his own choice here for good or ill.

Crist would be the right fit for him and would be a big problem for the Dems in the GE.

8. Possibly Tim Pawlenty.
It would be an "investment" in the future of the GOP, and right now it's in desperate straits.

A governor is often a good choice for a national ticket.

Minnesota is a "purplish" state and Pawlenty could make it very close.

Pawlenty will serve as "host" Republican for their convention in the Twin Cities, so his national profile will shoot up no matter what.

McCain is likely furious and vengeful with the Far Right fundies -- the Dobson and the Bay Buchanan folk in his party -- and may figure they aren't going to help him anyway so why not pick a "moderate" northerner like Pawlenty?

26. Are Pawlenty's approval ratings down owing to that bridge collapse or not?
I haven't seen anything on this angle. A horrible set of circumstances, but are Minnesotans connecting Pawlenty to this in the blame way?

10. He's an idiot if her chooses Lieberman.
That'd be like signing your own death warrant, IMHO. The GOP establishment is already unhappy with McCain-- it would not be wise on his part to let that neocon Lieberman be one heartbeat from the presidency.

Huckabee wouldn't be a bad choice. He'd be good insurance, and panders to the disaffected fundamentalists. Or he could opt for someone less known-- a simple ideologue, to pander to the CPAC crowd.

15. Perhaps Jeb Bush.
Kay Bailey Hutchison, but there would be the geographic diversity problem.
Swallow it and go with Huckabee. That would make the deep south competitive.

18. I say DeWine of SC or George Allen
Allen was thought of highly by the Republican establishment before we laid the wood to him in Virginia and DeWine has that touch of fiscal BS that many conservatives fall for and is a southern candidate. Huckabuster won't fit on this ticket and will try again in 2012 for the big prize again. FairTax is too polarizing and confusing, not the best choice of a main issue.

24. That makes a lot of sense. Really.
McCrazy will will make a deal with the (PNAC) devil to pick a VP with that group's stamp of approval in order to get the support of the freakishly powerful radical right wing. This is the bunch that placed Junior in the Presidency, so they should be able to install McCain without breaking a sweat.

I think the suggestion that McCain might "pass on" the power of the Presidency to the VP after taking office is very possible. Junior was so malleable they could just leave him in place while Cheney did whatever the hell he wanted to. McCain isn't as stupid or malleable.

32. Jeb Bush is actually scheduled to run in 2016...
after McCain's eight successful years in the White House.

By then, the legal misadventures of his loathsome family will be ancient history. The press will have us convinced that it will be good to have a Bush in the White House again.
