9. And...
...anyone whose body size does not conform to Madison Avenue standards. In fact, hatred of this group is regularly featured right here at DU. I guess that hurtful fat jokes never go out of style. :(

11. I haven't seen many objections to hippies, dopers, and reds--not at DU, anyway.

12. Not at Du, but if you lived through the 60's and 70's you would know.
I had my ass kicked more than once just because I had long hair.

3. I think at the top of the list should be the poor and the elderly.....
... there's disdain for the poor, and disrespect for the elderly. I grew up in a culture that respected and still respects the elderly. I've seen no respect for the elderly in this country. In my opinion, the mistreatment and negative views of the poor and elderly have a lot to do with the manifest destiny, cowboy, "I've got mine, F you if you don't have yours" whacko American mentality. It is constantly idolized and aggrandized even today. Look at Hollywood movies... they're all about how rich young people fall in love, how rich young people have problems, how rich young people have psychic experiences, how rich young people do this, how rich young people do that. Until this country becomes human and humane, it will continue to be one f*cked up nation where the Bushes of the world will be quite electable.

5. Agree. Old people aren't given much respect here, nothing about the wisdom of the elders,
...unlike in many other societies, many of which are matriarchal in nature, too.

Also, misogyny still reigns here.

8. And Don't Forget Polacks!
While we may be kind of assimilated now, it wasn't always the case.

4. Swedes, Haitians, and Latinos is too broad
we are fond of Cubans. We are almost ok with Columbians. Wealthy brown people seem to get a pass sometimes.
Pakistanis, Arabs, and Indians aint gettin a lot of love either.

We have gone from serial xenophobia to a broad based hatred of the other.
