As 'Idol' hopefuls sing, Terry to hear 'ka-ching'

WASHINGTON — Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., hopes his constituents' crooning can help drum up some campaign cash.
The Omaha lawmaker will hold a fundraising event Tuesday night at the Capitol Hill Club, and the evening's entertainment is a screening of the "American Idol" TV episode featuring would-be stars who auditioned in Omaha.
Terry said he holds a fundraiser every year on his birthday, which is Tuesday, and he'd planned to do so with a luncheon this time around. But after reading that "Idol's" Omaha edition was scheduled for that night, he changed the event to cocktails and hors d'oeurves.
Terry is asking those who attend to contribute $500 per person or $1,000 per political action committee.
The fundraising portion of the evening is scheduled to last from 8 to 10 EST (7 to 9 CST), when the TV show will air. At that point, anyone is welcome to join the festivities, although the open bar will switch over to cash, Terry said.
Terry said he's confident that any especially outlandish or awful acts that might appear on Tuesday's show won't be homegrown.
