I wish I was a couple, I'd get twice as much?

I mean really, who are the idiots providing info on this thing?

It reeks of stupidity.

22. Yes, it is actually a loan against next year's tax return.
I never get a return. I always pay at the end of the year, so I'll have to pay back the whole thing.

25. paid back, or reported as income?
I am not understanding this - does the full $600 have to be paid back, or is the beef just that people have to pay income taxes on that $600?

2. Not really following
2 people get $1200. 1 person + 1 person = $1200 2 people = 1 + 1.

Now I know there are single heads of households with children, etc. Is that single person with kids only getting the $600?

5. I sympathize
it's redundant. No reason to specify that couples get 1200. Saying that every person (if they've paid taxes in the past) gets 600 is enough info.

12. But "1200 for couples" just SOUNDS like so much more
if you're a moran.

They're playing to their base. No... Their OTHER base.

8. I'm smaht.
 I studied up my numbers real good.

Maybe with more detail, you will make sense. Are you saying an extra 600 for a spouse? Even if so, that doesn't strike me as too unfair, since you'd have another mouth to feed.

4. I'm single, but there's NOTHING unfair about that -- what's unfair is the extra $300 -
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 01:14 AM by smalll
for each child - with NO CUT OFF: which means that this family of fundies:

will be getting a nice fat check for $4,200! ($1,200 for the husband and wife, $300 for each of their TEN rugrats.)

7. Wondering how it will affect the unemployed.
I have not read the proposals yet, since I know they'll be modified before they go forward.

But I've been unemployed since my job went to India without me. I chose to go back to school rather than jump back into work, so I'll be interested to see how the plan affects me.

I don't believe that this will stimulate anything, it will just push late payments back by 30-60 days.

16. It sounds like if you made more than $3K last year
you will get something. I assume unemployment money counts towards that, since they make you pay tax on it.

11. Has anyone done the math?
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 01:43 AM by Nictuku
I suck at math. But what I'd be interested in knowing is... How many of our (300+ million) people are eligible for this money?

Divide 150 billion by that number.... and how much is that? If individuals who are eligible only are getting 600, where is all that money going?

It is a case of 'look at the shiney 600.00 while we steal some more out from under your grandchildren'

Where is the Money???

We ain't going to see it.

17. Well, the dems did bargain for a rebate for people who work but don't make enough to have taxes
taken out so I think you will definitely get a check. I would guess you will get $600 + $300 + $300?

S.S. recipients got screwed on this one though. I forget what bargaining chip my mom and all her peers were traded off for, but I hope it's made into a huge campaign issue.

23. S.S. recipients got screwed
Sure did. My husband also has a pension with his S.S. I just started my part time job in Sept so I didn't make 3,000 thousand yet. My husbands income is considered "unearned" so it doesn't count. Of course we are raising two children but not a dime for us. I've always been offended a bit that a pension is unearned income. I also thought you have to work to get a damn pension but I can't change the IRS by ourselves.

$600 for you, and $300 for each of your kids. I'm also a single mother of two, and that's what I think I'll be getting.

15. this is a credit card cash advance
and we will pay out the a$$ for it.

It helps China temporarily if anyone goes to Walmart and buys a new tv, thats all.

China holds alot of USD, and also depends on us to buy their crap, and now that we have exported our
economy elsewhere, we can't afford to buy the crap.

What does Bush think he is pulling with this? I predict that in addition to the tax cuts we will get lower gas prices -- in exchange for weapons sales to Saudi Arabia.
