Why should we be rewarding Big Business and the ultra rich for their behavior which has helped create the situation we find ourselves in? Does anyone still buy into this "trickle-down" Reagan voodoo nonsense anymore? You don't help the economy by giving tax cuts to wealthy corporations so that the greedy CEO's can give themselves bigger bonuses, which they will also pay less taxes on! You help the economy by raising taxes on these people, so that you can expand social programs, help those who are unemployed, those who need help, those who are looking to start new businesses but don't have the capital to do so. You help the economy by requiring businesses to pay their workers a decent living wage, by requiring them to give their employees benefits. You help the economy by creating new public works projects, hiring new workers, and improving our nation's infrastructure at the same time.

1. No one actually thinks that trickle down works
But as a lie it has worked pretty well so far. To the average Non-thinking American it almost sounds reasonable. Besides at this point the rich will punish us for raising taxes on them because there are few advocates for the working poor in Washington to stop them.

always seems to end up in the pockets of the big guys. People will likely use the money for food or to pay off bills, not the least of which will go to the Energy companies.

Mainly it's a bribe to keep down an uprising.
