Meaning, it is just an advance that we'll have to subtract from next year's refund, or is it a full-out credit?

Another question - what if you paid income taxes, but not $1200 worth (as a household). Do you get the $1200 check or the $600 one?

Judgin from some of the Repub objections to rebates going to those do not actually owe taxes because of their income being too low, we can safely assume it is a repeat of that earlier Bush tax rebate where we all owed the money back at tax time the following year.
