Wow... I know it is an old movie but DANG...
Sicko..
I am watching it for the first time and wow...
this is SUCH MY FAMILY... I was the insurance carrier for my family on 9/11 so when I got laid off of my job as a flight attendant after 9/11 it was a blow... due to trying to get insurance but being declined due to pre existing conditions which were so slight I was shocked not to be able to get it...
my son got DEATHLY sick we took him to the doctor EVERY DAY for a week.. without insurance then the week ending in a hospital visit...
needless to say... we are STILL paying this off almost 5 years later...
this movies is so wonderful it should be a mandatory viewing...
ok I know I'm late at seeing this movie but I had to post something

2. The kicker is when he looks at other countries...
On Fresh Air's NPR I was listening to someone review the current crop of candidates' plans for health care reform, and I still can't get over the fact that doing what EVERY OTHER COUNTRY that we'd want to be like is COMPLETELY off the table.

Seriously, how many ***VOTERS*** do the BIG investors and employees of health insurance companies NUMBER? I'd be SHOCKED if it were over 200,000 VOTES.

I'm not counting small investors. I suppose most of us who own mutual funds own a few dollars of one or the other, but I'll gladly lose thousands out of my mutual funds in order to have SECURITY for the rest of my life!

And yet these 200,000 VOTES somehow hold THE REST OF US HOSTAGE for their CASINO SCHEME, WITH *THEM* TAKING IN THE PROFITS!

3. One of my sons-in-law is a staunch rethug of the highest order.
Ex-Marine, billy bad butt, hate them terraists, Chucklenuts is god sort of a guy. At the first of the year they had to cancel their health insurance through their employers - cost more than what my daughter cleared each month! Well, he watched "Sicko" and he is pissed to the highest order. He finally, FINALLY, has bought himself a clue. He told me over the weekend that if he and daughter could find jobs in France they would be gone before the sun is down tomorrow. This gung ho, America is # 1, the rest of the world can go to hell guy WANTS to move to France! Both daughter and SIL are hard workers, she works full time and he works two jobs and they are barely keeping their heads above water. He, like every other parent, wants to know his kids can get health care, that they will be educated without tens of thousands of dollars in debt, that there is a quality of life that puts an emphasis on family and not just mouth about it when it comes to gay couples.

This is a major, major turnaround. He even said he would vote Democratic. I think hell just hit subarctic temps.
