I'm still falling out of my chair laughing at that one! Here in Ga. we had 3/4" or less of snow! It's really not cold eonugh to have it last much past 9AM!

I admit te bing a damn Yankee from Pa. but that statement was rediculous!

5. Be more afraid of the ice storms in Atlanta. When I moved there from Iowa, I was

stunned at the terrible damage and dangerous conditions of an Atlanta ice storm. The whole town practically shuts down, thousands without electricity, tall pines falling on houses and streets, etc.

It's no joke.

7. You should have seen what the THREAT of snow did in Raleigh a few years

ago. The forecast was for heavy accumulation, and people were leaving early from work to pick up their kids and get home. I only live 5 minutes from work so I did't worry about it, and I'm in a small town anyway.

That night on the 11:00 news, people were still stuck in traffic -- some people had spent 8 hours in their cars! AND NOT ONE FLAKE FELL!

So in our case, the Lack of Snow changed life as we knew it!

I also know there's a BIG difference with how the hwy dept deals with ice & snow in the north v/s the south. I lived in Pa. for 47 years and NEVER missed a day of work because of weather. The road crews were out long before I got out of bed in the morning to take care of things. After I moved to SC in 1987 I only realized how much I loved the road crew in Pa. Snow & Ice happen so infrequently in the south, they have no equipment to deal with it, so you're on your own.

It doesn't matter where you are, ice on the road is treacherous. I hope you made it home ok. Good luck.

on the first day of the snow the nightly news would report "the City of Seattle has used up its yearly snow removal budget."

24. We live in the "Cascade Foothills"

in other words, 350 feet above sea level. There's snow on the ground right now, for instance.

It's amazing to me that our tiny town can be out sanding within a couple of hours of significant snowfall (anything over 1",) but Seattle is still having snow removal problems, aren't they?

Here's to the people of Atlanta -- may they get where they're going safely tomorrow morning, or may they just stay home and enjoy the white stuff.

14. My Grocery Store in Richmond, VA was Packed

I asked the man taking out my groceries why the store was busy on a Wednesday??? He said the forecast called for snow. I hadn't heard about it. If we get an inch it will be a lot. Can people really not have enough food in their house to wait for one inch to melt? I, too, am from the north and think this is very bizarre.

15. East Alabama had 11 inches one day back in February of 1973.

I drove all over the place with no problems. Nobody was on the roads. I dropped the air pressure down in my tires, took off, and got myself some beer and snacks.

The problem we have down south is that the news people sensationalize snow events, and people freak out. 30-40 years ago it was no problem.

17. HA HA! They just announced that a bunch of schools were closed

tomorrow, and several gov't offices too!

I swear to you, I live in one of the areas where they've closed the gov't offices, and I have about 1/2" of snow on the grass in myt back yard and NONE on the road at all!

I remember being stuck at ATL once because it was TOO COLD.

I was flying from Boston to Orlando and had to stop in Atlanta. We couldn't leave because it was in the low twenties. No snow or icing problems...they told us it was just too cold, and the crew on the tarmac didn't have the proper cold-weather gear. Seriously...I'm not making this up. I couldn't leave Atlanta because they didn't have mittens and jackets.

My son works the maintenance crew in Atlanta...has for the last 17 years. NEVER have they ever not flown a plane because it was TOO COLD!

up north you guys brave the cold, the slush, the accidents but down south with the least bit of accumulation the schools close, businesses close and we stay home.................

curled up on the couch in front of a nice roaring fire, drinking hot chocolate, and reading the new best seller. Damn, we're dumb.
