A whistleblower: This guy needs help.

He works for the New York Dept. of Environmental Protection and discovered mercury contamination in the water.

I've already e-mailed him suggesting he contact a whistleblower protection outfit. I was thinking that Elliott Spitzer, the Ex-AG turned Governor should here about this. If you are a New Yorker its about you.

He might want to contact Wikileaks. This is exactly the kind of situation that WikiLeaks was set up for in the first place: to give whistleblowers a safe place to archive sensitive documents and/or tell their stories with low personal risk.

To contact them, I'd definitely use one of the anonymous proxy servers/services available to hide his real IP address and maybe add some encryption as well. That's what this software supposedly does. I've never used it, so I can't verify the claims.

For the record, this does not constitute an endorsement of Wikileaks, I don't know anyone who has used their services, nor do I know anything about Wikileaks that isn't publicly available on their web site. And I would again stress that using an anonymous mailer would be the safest way to make initial contact. You can be fairly certain that, unless Wikileaks is completely bogus (which I doubt), the federales will be keeping close tabs on traffic into and out of the site.
