Forgive the source, but come on. It is apparent to me that three day work weeks, multi-week vacations and gourmet food are more important to all of our congressional critters than ending a war or fixing the economy. This is how the aristocracy eats and works I guess.

==========================================
The processed cheese has been replaced with brie. The Jell-O has made way for raspberry kiwi tarts and mini-lemon blueberry trifles. Meatloaf has moved over for mahi mahi and buns have been shunted aside in favor of baguettes.

A revolution is afoot at the deli counters, grills and salad bars of the U.S. House of Representatives.
.............................

A fruit and cheese side dish with two small wedges of brie and cheddar, six grapes, two saltines and one strawberry cost $4.95, for example.
............................
There is pan-roasted Chesapeake rockfish with sweet potato fennel hash and yellow pepper relish. Pears with Stilton cheese and watercress. Cumin-scented leg of lamb with almond couscous. There are vegetables with funny names, like bok choy, arugula and jicama. There are baked goods with Italian names, like biscotti, focaccia and frittati.

6. I hear there are congresspeople that share 4 to a place
in DC cuz their main residences are at home and they just sleep in DC.

One rep used to sleep in his office.

If you think our congresspeople should get free subsidized housing more power to you.

3. Doesn't seem like its being subsidized.
Prices went up along with the quality.

I think its a good thing. Sounds much more healthy and appetizing than greasy hamburgers etc.

And since they can't get lobbyists to buy them food anymore...

4. Who cares what they eat?
The fruit and cheese side dish sounds like the one for $5 at Starbucks. They're paying for it.

7. Gasp! Funny names. Italian names. Oh no!
One House Republican aide lobbed attacks at the Democrats over e-mail.

“I really don’t like Nanny Nancy telling me what I can and cannot eat for lunch. If I want to eat unhealthy, I should have that choice!” the aide fumed.

I fully support any and all Republicans that want to eat unhealthy. Go inhale a few pounds of freedom fries, buddy.

8. They're public restaurants
Congresscritters have to pay like everyone else, and anyone can walk in and eat. What's the big deal?

9. If this is what the Repubs are complaining about,
I don't get it. They still have the option of "low-cost alternatives such as pizza, sandwiches and prepared salads, which remain around the same price."

Where else in DC, or anyplace for that matter, can you get a meal like this for $6.75?

House cafeteria's new dishes:
Sustainable Seafood dish: pan seared
Chesapeake Rock Fish, sweet potato
fennel hash, and yellow pepper relish ($6.75)

11. Oh noes!!! Food with Italian names!!!

You should stop by some company cafeterias out here in NoCal. Today my company is serving Tuscan Braised Shortribs over Polenta, Grilled Swordfish with Mango Salsa and Warm Spinach Salad with Bacon, Red Onion Toasted Almonds, Red Beets and Parsnips with a Balsamic Vinaigrette. That's in addition to the brick-oven pizzas, gourmet sandwich grill (Roasted Chicken Panini on Ciabatta Bread with a Chipotle Mayo and Provolone Cheese) and a Sushi Bar (complete with company sushi chef).

And of course, all the ingredients are organic, free-range, blah blah blah.

There's nothing wrong with people wanting to eat well. At any rate, it's not exactly in the same league with continuing to fund an illegal war of choice...
