Heard something interesting at work tonight...
Apparently, Tacoma has the lowest percentage of church-goers in Washington State, and Washington State has the lowest percentage of church-goers in the country.

Boy, do I live in the right city or what?

Someone jokingly said "All those damned heathens."

I just looked away and said "Oh, I'm not commenting on that at all."

I'm an agnostic pantheist married to a witch.

I sure as shootin' don't attend church.

1. Yeah, yeah, but Tacoma and Seattle are home to some of the whiniest music on the planet...
So you got that to balance it all out...

2. Eh?
What the hell does that have to do with anything?

What whiny music? I don't listen to the radio usually, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Unless you're talking about grunge, which is long dead anyway. Not to mention that a lot of hard rock from this area was labeled "grunge" but really wasn't.

You have some examples?

3. Oh, just givin' you a hard time...

...my best friend went to Puget Sound and has been complaining for years that the music scene here (Los Angeles, New York City) pales in comparison to that of Seattle and its environs.

I went along with it for awhile, but couldn't maintain a dignifed silence after listening to CD after CD of men-children with the emotional age of Middle-Schoolers crooning about how fucking precious they are, often accompanied by mandolins and/or glockenspiels.

Indie Rock, Neo-Folk Rock, Emo Rock...if only Kurt Cobain was alive to sneer at some of these losers...

But anyway, I'm sorry--just a knee-jerk reaction to someone saying something nice about Tacoma. It's a beautiful city. Really.

4. Oh...I don't know anything about that stuff.
Not my scene. The only "folk" type music I know about in the region is Gaia Consort, a local pagan band that seriously kicks ass. The band leader is an incredible musician and composer, though, from all reports, his head's a little swollen.

5. Hah, we're all like that.
I'm a musician too...we're some of the most insecure AND egotistical people you'll ever meet.

7. I was actually surprised to find out how many churchers
I work with.

No religious righties, though. At least not so as you can tell. Target's dedication to diversity is pretty damn solid, and homophobia would NEVER be tolerated.

8. According to this article
http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20060502/news_lz1n2thelist.html

6 other states beat Washington: Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Nevada, Vermont & New Hampshire.

So you may have to move to New England!

9. I've been to New England.
It was nice.

But I think I'll stick around home. Wouldn't want to mess up the percentages.

:D
