Is DU helping the GOP to win?
Shouldn’t Democrats try to be more supportive of our Democratic candidates? The “United we stand, divided we fall” principle? Otherwise, our attacks are just weakening them and helping the Repubs.

There is a very tight race with John McCain according to:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4049236
Also, take a look at the following ratings from various prominent organizations. This was posted earlier but not many people viewed it.

2. We'll rally around our candidate.
I don't think that the Republicans make that same claim. I've talked with a few republicans who told me that they won't vote GOP this time around.

3. Not only is DU not important
it's more important than ever that we get the RIGHT candidate...which I don't think will happen.

Expect the same things that have happened for the last 7 years to go on for another 9.

All of the candidates that are being shoved down our throats have ridden or still ride the war for profit train.

4. This is about where the party's candidate ends up in the Issues-spectrum.
If ***everyone*** has some effect on the configuration of the issues the party takes up against the Republicans, they will support the candidate.

5. How is it "weakening them and helping the Republicans"?
Methinks you vastly overrate the opinions and importance of DU and DUers.

9. But..Whose illusion?
"Once upon a time, Chuang Tzu dreamed that he was a butterfly, a butterfly fluttering about, enjoying itself. It did not know that it was Chuang Tzu. Suddenly he awoke with a start and he was Chuang Tzu again. But he did not know whether he was Chuang Tzu who had dreamed that he was a butterfly, or whether he was a butterfly dreaming that he was Chuang Tzu." - Chuang-Tzu

18. If the primaries are able to 'destroy' our candidates, we don't have a CHANCE
in the G.E..
In case you haven't noticed, the Republicans don't play nice.
Politics is a contact sport, and it's important to be sure we're getting a candidate who can take it (as it were).

14. most of the public isn't paying attention.
I just read about a cspan caller who claimed that he and his family were for Obama - but that if Obama wasn't a candidate they were for Romney.

Now that makes no sense - if one pays attention to positions, records, etc.

However it makes a lot of sense if you realize that folks often vote based on very general impressions and not a whole lot more. I just don't think enough of the voting public is aware enough for this to make a difference in the GE.

The battling on DU is ugly and drives me crazy, but I don't think that much of what is being raised and warred with here will have a whit of difference in November.

15. Kudos for doing this research
I would have preferred you included Kucinich, but apparently he's persona non grata on DU. Nevertheless, an important reminder of the voting records of the front-running Democratic candidates.

I have a feeling your subject title is going to cause the thread to sink quickly. Perhaps you could post the same figures on a new thread with a more positive, less cynical title (not that I necessarily disagree with the sentiment).

Nice, positive message, though, which I'm recommending. Great job!

19. Maybe, but by most people's reckoning, DU is positively toxic right now
and it ain't because some DU'ers are calmly, cooly, and rationally criticizing their candidate's opponents based on the issues alone. It's become toxic because there are too many DU'ers who are pushing their own candidate and demonizing the others, like it's a damned sports match. So I think the OP is right to bring this up, even though it is still primary season. I don't think it's meant to prevent us from continuing to positively promote our favored candidate. I never understood the need for any DU'er to criticize another Democratic candidate, when we've got all this free space to positively promote our own. Why should anyone waste that great opportunity, assuming they truly believe in their candidate?

And, DU is also responsible for global warming and the fact that it is raining here today. Scary. Powerful, but scary.

About as silly as saying the Statue of Liberty helps the GOP to win every election cycle.

The top Democratic candidates appear to have excellent ratings so when certain people who claim to be democrats become intent on destroying them, this, of course, will help their opponents.
But maybe some would prefer to have John McCain as President.
Sometimes I wonder if this Democratic forum has been taken over by our opponents!

24. If other voters are influenced by what they read here...
...then so are the candidates.

This is just another forum to air differing views, and neither DU nor Democratic candidates will benefit from attempts to muzzle it.

25. No The Corporate Media IS!
By attempting to push Candidates at us as already anointed for victory they are destroying the Democratic Party.
They are telling people what to think about everything and not allowing them to make their own decisions.
NBC news gave John Edwards 4 seconds of coverage after he came in 2nd in Iowa after hving spent less than a 3rd of the money Obama and Clinton had!
You want to know who is at fault look to time/warner and ge!

Remember what Ned Beatty says in NETWORK? There are no Nations only CORPORATIONS.

And, just like in NETWORK those corporations now edit every single news item you ever see EXCEPT FOR THE INTERNET!

As "V" says: "People should not be afraid of their Governments. Governments should be afraid of their People!"

UP THE REPUBLIC!
