Typical American ... and the thought of a national ID ... (rant)
What´s the most important document for an American once he leaves the country?

A valid US passport ... which is a picture ID including name, birthdate, and birthplace, and a registration number.

Watch an American on a bus or a plane or a Starbucks outside of the US and you´ll see him proudly "FLASHING" his passport, just to make sure that everyone knows that he is so thrilled that he lives in Murika and carries this safety net with him at all times. Many times, that US passport is strategically placed in his front left pocket, so that everyone he meets knows right away that he is untouchable.

But tell this American that a national ID is on its way, and he´ll start a DU revolution!

5. As long as we're stereotyping, don't forget a fanny pack and "secret" wallet on a string.
Because, you know, all those furriners want to steal your money, not like back home.

8. In which case the revolution is not a DU one but a
freeper one since probably most DUers don't flaunt passports and expect Their Country to Help them Out of Jams.

Don't forget the complaining about how things are different than they are back home. Though why one would want to travel to a different country and have things the same is always a good question.

7. I've been pounced on many a time for the same plan
It always irritates me when dem leaders get brier patched by republicans when they push the "voter fraud" meme to promote ID.. We dems will spare NO expense to fight them in court, when the same money or less would probably GET IDs for the people who don't have them..AND remove the need for all the republicans' bullshit "legislation" at the same time.

Our dear ole USA government needs to pony up the cash (we CAN afford it) to get every citizen his/her own passport..

Those of us who travel could easily afford to renew them when they expire, but for the poor folks who do not travel, that EXPIRED passport should still be allowed to be used for proof of citizenship within the US.. the pertinent CITIZENSHIP parts of it NEVER expire.. a simple phone bill with proof of address, along with that expired passport would suffice.
