Rich Americans who go abroad for medical treatment
An angle I usually don't think of but I was just reading this article about how Farah Fawcett went to Germany to have some kind of treatment not available in the U.S., after her cancer treatments here failed.

Then I remembered Suzanne Sommers doing the same thing. How is it that the s-s-scary socialized medicine would be preferable to what they could get in our "free market" health care system?

The GOPers especially always act like we have the "best health care in the world," the only problem is one of access. But I see more people who HAVE insurance and money STLL going to Europe or India or whereever for treatment.

1. Yup. Many middle class go because it is cheaper and just as good
In some cases insurance will pay. Don't tell Limbaugh. He'd have a heart attack.
Disregard previous statement.

2. It is a false assumption that medicine is better in the US.
I worked in hospitals for many years and was on the 'cutting edge' of medical research at one of the most prestigious teaching hospitals in the Northeast.

I left for Mexico when I needed a cure for my cancer. The most compelling reason for me was that the therapy I wanted was made illegal in the US many years ago.

ALso, our system is designed for PROFIT TAKING FIRST. The doctors I had in Mexico were wonderful, intelligent and compassionate. I was free of any cancer in less than 5 weeks. That was almost 10 years ago.

3. The St. Gregory's Clinic near Munich is world-renowned for its
cancer treatment. I know someone who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and she made a full recovery, not remission, recovery.
