For those with Republican relatives, a question
What are they saying? Or do you avoid talking politics with them? I am not related to anyone who is a Republican, and I'm curious about their views on the candidates.

1. Ron Paul is "too crazy"
Guiliani is very strong on defense as is McCain. Romney is "too pretty", Thompson too old and Huckabee sounds great. Pretty much what fox noise tells them to think.

Oh yeah, and Global warming is a Hoax. And Al Gore is getting paid to stir up the public by those heathen tree hugger groups. :eyes:

I listened to this shit from my relatives, Mother, two sisters, brother, nephew and cousins. All freepers who get their 'information' from the TV.

I could use some pity. :(

4. I told them to shut up. I was getting anti-Kerry emails from 2004
from a certain relative, and I emailed them back saying I'd just come home from a Kerry rally. It was a bulk email to all their friends, so they all got a copy.
I spoke in glowing terms of being a democrat and how we had to stop the insane republican president. At the end, I said, now, how did you feel getting this email?
How do you think I feel getting your email? Please take me off your republican mailing list. I am NOT republican.
on that list, that relative's grown son wrote me to thank me, saying he wanted to say that so bad but couldn't say that to his dad.
and of course, I was harrassed by the group of reptards that were also on the list. Finally, I sent out a blanket response and explained that I consider republican emails junk mail, and I woudl HATE to have to block all correspondence from this relative but I"d have no choice, and I would miss out on their grandchildren's pictures, they would miss out on our family news, and I'd hate for that to happen.

a day later I got an apology and an email with family pictures attached and I never got another republican email from them. So I have no idea how they feel right now.
One of the things they chided me with was "how could you, as a christian, vote for Kerry?" I often wonder if they ever think "boy we voted for a torturer, liar and warmonger, I wonder what Jesus thinks of us now?"

LOL.

5. I don't have republican relatives (thank the goddess) but pubs at
work, who are mainly the religious nut types, like Huckabee. Remember that I live in VA, which consists of a bunch of fine Christian folk who don't generally follow their religion, but want everyone else to think they do. I think Huckabee will be fine with them, too, because they can feel all religious while voting for him. I think the swirl of talk about Giuliani's love life sank him immediately among the religious and fake-religious alike. I think Romney will do better, but none of these people like Mormons, either, and are worried a lot about that aspect of Romney, plus the fact that he could be construed as that most awful of animals, a LIBERAL, because he was elected gov of a liberal state. So, I personally think Huckabee has a lock on it here.

Thye'd vote in November for no other reason than to vote against her.

10. My brother made a big point of telling anti-Hillary jokes when I visited CA in Nov
and how great Leave No Child Behind was--it had the support of Teddy Kennedy! After some pretty sharp words, we went back to our usual behavior of not talking politics. I have a really smart brother--an MD/PhD who works for a biotech developing oncology drugs--but he's unempathic. He doesn't consider
it his responsibility to develop community or help others. We really have different values, so in the interest of family, we mostly avoid talking politics.

14. I only talk politics with GOPers in a very casual non-specific manner
I'm not going to seriously enagage them anymore. If they're still for Bush/GOP at this point there's nothing I can say to sway them. I usually just nod my head and smile - while heading for where the liquor is kept.

12. Yes, republicons definitely have 'manhood' issues and fear women
They are the chickenhawk republicons, and they are Viagra eaters, and bathroom stall fornicators, and Diaper Wearing blowhards.

So they are afraid of any woman who has integrity and power.

7. I don't have contact with any of them
I recently found two of my cousins on Facebook. I added them, but one look at their pages made it clear that any further contact would be a mistake. I'm assuming the feeling was mutual.

My wife has Repuke relatives just down the road, but talking politics is a no-no. She has done it few times and blow-ups have resulted. I know better than to even try it. Things will be said that can't be taken back.

8. My parents are racists...they are voting for anyone who will keep
people out of this country...they dislike everybody who isn't like them...
Oh, and my dad thinks Obama is a Muslim cause he got an email about it, and believes everything that those type of emails say (though I gotta admit, he was shocked, and quiet - which is weird for my dad - when I told him that it was bullshit)...

My father-in-law thinks only in terms of TERROR, and is convinced that Rudy is going to win...hard - to - control - laughter...anyways...

Honestly, it is hard to have a civil political discussion with any of them...

11. My family
Is a mix.

Brother: Quotes all of the republican talking points and hasn't made an error in their regurgitation in years. He currently thinks I'm semi-insane for articulating my "straying" from the repub party. Though on a positive note, I get to tease him alot more and point out his flaw concerning claiming to be independent but touting the Repub line non stop for years.

Sister: She seems to cycle through being ring wing and left wing somewhat frequently. I believe it matches nicely with the cycle of the Moon. There's no arguing with her really.. she's somewhat insane and I say that with love.

Grandfather: He and my grandmother consistently vote a straight democratic ticket every election. When I (fairly recently) was a repub, I'd try and get him to argue his reasoning but always to no avail. The only repub he has ever admitted to voting for was Nixon.. who he says was a very smart guy.. go figure.

Cousin: Is an activist in Washington DC for the democratic party. I use to love Hurrying up and putting support Bush signs in the yard when he would come and visit. Not because I liked Bush.. it was just to good of an opportunity to have some fun with him. don;t worry.. Im very much reformed.

Friends: Many of my repub friends are considering not converting to democrats, but for voting for Obama. They are completely upset with the Repub runners and think Obama is the best choice out there. They joke of the "Reagan Democrats" but in reverse this election. The rest of them I havent spoke to much to since my exodus.

Sorry for any sp.. was in a hurry.

16. I Avoid Talking With Them
I have come to the conclusion that many of these folks are so out of touch that I'm afraid that I can only show them pity. I am embarrassed for them when they speak so out of the goodness of my heart I keep them from speaking. lol I have been at gatherings where these people come out with a statement and the entire room gapes--even the conservatives! It seems to me that moderate repuks are also ashamed of their party at this time.

17. No Repiggie relatives....
....well, at least living at this time...but I have two close Repiggie friends and this is what I am getting from them:

The most conservative one is for Ghouliani because of the threat of terrorism and according to him, Rudy of everyone running is best able to deal with terrorism and this is the MOST important issue facing the country. <roll eyes>

The other Repiggie I know well, is a financial conservative, but very, very liberal as to social issues. He HATES Hillary and does not really like any other Dem very much, but he does not like the Repiggies who are running either.

That is about all I know on this issue.

19. My two repuke BILs both decided to caucus for the Dems
One for Edwards, one for Obama. Both said the Republicans only care about the very rich.
I didn't convert them, I hardly speak to them and not about politics. Previous attempts ended in harangues from them.

23. I cut off contact with one rabid nutjob freak
Even tho' his party was in power and controlled everything, he was still not happy (how Republican-like) and I got sick of the bizarre e-mails and the ranting and raving. Also, he was asked nicely to please not discuss politics, and, of course, being a Republican, he could not control himself when we were all together as a group.

So, I blocked his e-mails and told him why, and would hang up the telephone the second he started in on taboo topics. Tough love at this point is the only way to deal with this type of insanity.

So, us not having not spoken for awhile- I can extrapolate on his views- I know he hates Hillary and she is his senator from NY. He hates women and Dems, so his view on her is a no-brainer.

He hates all black people, so I assume he hates Obama.

He hates all Dems (as he lives on his great NY union pension, on the ocean in Queens), so I assume he will hate all the other candidates.

24. Watch FOX News for an hour and you will know exactly what they are saying
They have not a single independent thought. They are programed what to believe...Democrats apparently don't have that luxury as there is hardly any left leaning programming in America.
