A recent Military Religious Freedom Foundation report cited two newly uncovered videos made for the "Military Ministries" of Campus Crusade For Christ. One was filmed at the US Air Force Academy, the other at Texas A&M University. A study guide designed to accompany the second video, and which is currently being used by Campus Crusade's Military Ministry at Fort Jackson, SC asks soldiers in basic training the following:

"If you are in the military, then you are also in the m___________."

What goes in the blank ? "major leagues" ? "Middle East" "mythopoeic milleau" ?

The actual suggested answer is "ministry", and a very specific ministry in fact - a fundamentalist Christian ministry which teaches a Christian theology of war.

In the 1970s Campus Crusade's founder evangelist Bill Bright, whose political views have almost totally escaped media scrutiny called his group a "conspiracy to overthrow the world", and a 1998 book Bright co-authored declared the Theory Of Evolution to be a fraud. Bright was one of the signatories of an October 2002 letter sent to President George W. Bush, along with Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention, Chuck Colson, D James Kennedy, and others, asserting that the Bush Administration's intended war with Iraq would fall under traditional Christian "just war" theory.

According to Maj. Gen. Bob Dees, U.S. Army (ret.), the Executive Director of Campus Crusade's Military Ministry, in the October 2005 issue of the organization's "Life and Leadership" newsletter:

"We must pursue our particular means for transforming the nation -- through the military. And the military may well be the most influential way to affect that spiritual superstructure. Militaries exercise, generally speaking, the most intensive and purposeful indoctrination program of citizens...."

And then there's the Military Ministry's slogan:

"Reaching the World through the Military of the World"

2. On the tram the other day
I met some disoriented Amis trying to find their way back to their hotel. A couple from CO and their sweet dog, who initated the contact. They were SO wide-eyed and open, told me of their day's adventures, truly salt-of-the-earth and the BEST America has to offer. I gave them directions, their huge dog laid her head in my lap. The girl, who couldn't have been more than 20, was in the military. I tried to hide my wince as I thought, "I am not beyond wringing the neck of ANYONE who puts this wonderful child in harm's way..." Then I got off at my stop. Oh, UNIVERSE! PLEASE protect this beautiful baby!

3. The army chaplain center & school is located at Fort Jackson
which gave an opening for such groups to integrate themselves

brothers in jesus and all that....go where chaplains are trained etc, and then your message goes out all over

We've been lucky...well, that and the fact we both laugh at people when they tell us how much we need jesus in our lives.
