They ignore every other important foreign event. Self edit - I thought I was replying to a thread, not posting a new one.

My comment was about the assasination. Sorry!

1. it fits their model: sexy/safe and ties into the bogus 'war' on terror
sexy because someone was killed in gruesome manner. Safe because most people can't find Pakistan on a map. And it is in the Middle East, which means they get to blame the 'terrorists'.

Why is cable news wasting time on her?

28. Because for now they think it's a safe shot of legitimacy.
They can, for now, safely report this event without exposing anything that will hurt their interests. They can look like they cover international events. They'll turn to this when we complain about the round the clock coverage of the little Spears' certain arrest. And for now, it's safe. Wait until something pops up that points to something that would hurt their interests. There will be crickets.

15. Here ya go!
The Clenis
The Mighty Member of the Big Dog, our last elected president: The Clenis. Who could begin to define a signifier of such humongous power? The Clenis™ is worth about $10 million per inch as measured by the Republicans investigating it.... And to hear the Republicans tell it, The Clenis™ is responsible for everything that's wrong with the country, then and now.... Watch them change the subject to The Clenis™ whenever they start losing an argument on the merits; it's fun, and educational! He don't need no stinkin' codpiece .... Originated by "Jennifer" of the Atrios comments section.

8. No, it is not Bush's fault. He was not even there
but Bush does love his little buddy Mushareff(sp), the dictator that is currently in charge of Pakistan. He does love the idea of a good war, or a bad one as far as that goes. It is not Bush's fault directly, but he did nothing to stop it and his terrible foreign policy have only exacerbated the situation in Pakistan.

10. No, Bush is NOT responsible...
He'd have to be SANE to be considered truly responsible in the eyes of the law...

But he's not... not even a little...

...so don't give it another thought...

29. It can't be Bush's fault.
He is a friggin idiot. It's the fault of the republicans down to the grass roots. The party leaders feed the republican sheep bullshit and they gobble it up. They say the liberals want to tax and spend, while they are borrowing and spending. And for every dollar they spend they rich republicans scrap off 20%. And the republican grassroots are distracted but some shiny objects.

Edited on Thu Dec-27-07 08:35 PM by shance
And look what how all those killings have affected the direction of our planet?

It has helped no one, and hurt everyone.

Its time to stop the killing of those leaders and the good, decent people who could save the planet.

25. I haven't read the other replies yet, but I am sure others have said this
They are covering it because the average American is ignorant of that part of the world and the race between Bhutto, Sharif and Musharraf. Hence, they can spin it the way that they want- by blaming al Quaeda and propping up the War on Terror. Which is why they ignored the murder of that Lebanese politician earlier in the year, they couldn't spin it to prop up the neocon agenda. They can with Bhutto, unfortunately.

27. Because it pumps that FEAR/TERRORISM/FEAR/TERRORISM juice into the national bloodstream
Nothing...NOTHING is more powerful nor beneficial to the Evil Bushies.

Fear clogs the brain and shuts it down. Fear leads people back to a childlike state which begs to be saved by Der Bushler.

A nice jolt of FEAR will, as the BushMedia has already indicated, can vault their Designated Imperial Successor 9/11ani, back into the lead.

FEAR will do the same for Sen. Clinton, who is the Bushies second choice because, like her husband, will cover up their crimes and shut down the investigations "for the good of the country".

You must remember that all good propaganda, like advertising, works at the subcoscious level. This injection of FEAR will be with us for quite awhile, and the 2008 Bushie Propaganda Offensive has only just begun. There will be more upcoming to "catapult the propaganda" and the FEAR.

Culminating, as it did in 2004, with an October Surprise right before the "election". I don;t know what it will be this time, only that IT WILL BE.

One can only guess what it is, but the Oct. 31st release of the Bin Laden-Bush "campaign video" combined with the "American al-Qaeda" video, were devastatingly effective and likely pulled the election close enough not only to steal, but to provide the Bushies with a stolen margin of error that was well beyond the dangerous game they played in 2000 because they didn't steal and suppress enough votes nationally and in FLA and were exposed...not that it mattered anyway.

FEAR is what this is all about, so you can bet we'll get 24/7 coverage for quite some time, until the National Bloodstream is saturated with FEAR.

30. Is it possible that they're covering it simply because it's news worthy?
This is a story they can't ignore, and it's dramatic. Don't underestimate that last part. They ignored the S&L scandal because it wasn't dramatic. Even though it had far reaching effects. But no crazy pictures, so no go.

31. I'm not.
It keeps the constant drumbeat of "terra terra terra" going and there's nothing the M$M loves better than to serve their MIC masters. It helps the hawks who are currently running for the nomination -- on both sides.
