Is there any chance in hell Al Gore will run (on edit) in the 2008 General Election?

2. Ever or in 2008?
I have pretty much given up on him for 2008. I think is a decent chance that he will run in the future.

11. Thanks. I think he is done for the 2008 race
I feel sorry for whoever wins this election. What a disaster they will have to clean up, and unfortunately, they will probably end up with at least some of the blame.

Then maybe you should change the title of the thread as well
Unless you really meant it. I will never give up on supporting the man. I don't care if he ever runs for political office again.

3. He has been operating out of pre conceived paradigms for a while now.
With the unpredictability of the election season as this moment in time, I am ruling nothing out.

However, I'm operating with a pragmatic view, and expect that one of the current contenders will be our candidate in the G.E.

6. I don't believe there is any chance at this point for the 2008 election.
He could probably have entered and made a good run if at any point if he'd jumped in and campaigned prior to the Iowa Caucus and NH Primary, but it's just not going to happen now.

As to the future, I think the outcome of the November 2008 election will shape Gore's future political plans. Right now, he's doing what he feels the world needs most from him, IMO. Whether we agree or not is, frankly, irrelevant. We have no claim on the man.

Even if Gore ran, I would still vote for Biden at caucus. And just like now, I will vote for whoever the dem candidate is in the GE.

15. I think Al found his real passion it's not being POTUS.
I am very happy for Mr. Gore and his recent accomplishments.

I respect he realized his real passion is environmental protection and activism and not being POTUS. I wouldn't want to run for POTUS in 2008 either knowing the state of the US right now.

16. That's my impression too.
When he was in politics, as Senator, and later as Vice President and Presidential candidate, he had to do too many favors for too many special interests, and he wasn't free to act according to his conscience.

Sure he doesn't have the political power as private citizen, but as environmental activist, he doesn't have to owe favors to anyone - he's free.

I highly doubt he will run in 2008 at this point, but I'm not giving up on that until the convention is over.

20. If he were meant to do that he would have stepped up by now.
My Air America affiliate was playing some best of Randi Rhoades last night and she was playing clips from his Jan 2006 speech. It was so powerful. Of course we want him to be president. But he can speak more freely out of office, and the world will listen. He has the world's respect and the world's ear. I trust his decision on this.

21. I think Al wants to live. The Bushies would Kennedy or Wellstone him.
Sen. Clinton, as someone who will bury all of the Bushie crimes qnd insure no prosecutions "for the good of the country" may well be their preferred choice in 2008, as her husband, in retrospect (and I am not saying he was a bad President, quite the contrary, but even FDR let the Bushies off the hook for High Treason in 1933 when they tried to overthrow America and ally themselves with Adolf Hitler)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/document/document_20070723.shtml

buried the High Treasons of GHW Bushler "for the good of the country". High Treasons such as Iran-Contra, Iraqgate and BCCI.

I don't think there is anyone who dailed to notice the message that was sent when the Busheis amiled the Democratic Leadership and the supposedly "Lib'rul" Media" those envelopes of "Made in the USA" Anthrax and then tanked the investigation so obviously.

Just as I believe no one would dare mention those misgivings in public for fear of being labeled a "conspracy theorist" and losing their power and privilege, limos and cocktail party invites. They would again be Filthy Little Nobodies like all of us.

Once again, the Bushies have accomplished their mission.

I answered the question in the thread's title -- but it is the opposite from the question just above the poll. :(

30. Where?
I'm a blonde woman with ADD, sometimes I miss things. Could you point me in the right direction please? All I recall him saying was that he "has no plans to run" and that he was not going to give a Sherman statement. But I must have missed the Sherman statement, obviously.

31. Regardless of his actual quote, I took him at his word.
Don't get me wrong; I'd support a Gore candidacy 100%, but he ain't running so it's well past time to stop wishing. When he said that he wasn't running ("has no plans" if you prefer) I figured that he was telling the truth about his intentions.

33. ....
..mmkay. I just re-read my post and realized it could come off as a bit snarky, and that wasn't my intention; I did mean to ask an honest question.
However, I do still beleive that his words are specifically designed to not close the door.
But we will have to agree to disagree about this admittedly probably moot point.
Peace!

29. His only real chance to get into this election would be at the convention
Assuming there's no candidate with enough delegates. And this might well be the best outcome for this party and this country, however unlikely it seems with a deliberately front loaded primary.

Funny that the Democratic party started going down hill around the same time we started messing with the process of choosing a candidate.

A gridlocked convention with Gore emerging as the nominee would be the storybook ending to this decade long nightmare.

Edited on Thu Dec-27-07 01:36 AM by Seabiscuit
Gore will immediately endorse him and campaign with him the rest of the way. But I don't think Gore would accept a VP spot or any cabinet spot for that matter. The simple truth is that Gore's plate is very, very full right now and I wish him all the best.
