The popular drug's prices have changed little in 25 years

A car, a home, a gallon of milk — most everything costs more now than a generation ago. Except a baggie of Mexican marijuana.

Give or take a few dollars, authorities say, pot grown in Mexico and sold in Houston and other Texas cities still goes for about the same price as 25 years ago: $60 to $80 for an ounce.

In economic terms, marijuana is far cheaper since the decade when a three-bedroom home in upscale West University cost $150,000, a new ride was less than $6,000 and first lady Nancy Reagan urged kids to "Just Say No."

"I guarantee you it is probably cheaper than it was back in the day," said Lt. Gray Smith of the Houston police narcotics division. "Since I've been in the dope business, it has been pretty much the same," he said of prices during 20 years of monitoring sales.

Mexican brown, I haven't even seen that kind of stuff since I move to Europe. I would love to have a 40 dollar ounce of that stuff here now. I would roll it up into 4 or 5 joints.....

When we get weed here you have to roll a tiny joint because it is so damn strong. Back in the day we would buy an O for 60 or 80 dollars (high shcool prices) and smoke it all in one sitting between 6 or 8 people. What fun....

I got some killer Mexican skunk for Occaca or Michaucan???? once for 60 dollars a Mexican ounce (35 grams). Huge buds, hell I got busted with some, and my shirt still reeked like the joint I had smoked 2 days earlier when I got out of jail.

If you know the right Mexicans you get the top quality outdoor skunk/gold buds for the same price that most white folks pay for brown stale brick.

Good Weed is hard to find here in Alabama,but it doesn't take much for most of the pea brains here!Good home grown is about $160 oz. I remember when you could get a lid for $30 oz.

Mexican goes for a little as 40 dollars an ounce in chicago. I heard tell of people in Texas paying as little as 20 or 30 dollars for an ounce of Mexican brick in Dallas and Oklahoma city around 5 years ago.

Of course when you buy a pound of the brick stuff you get a "Mexican pound" about half a kilo for between 500 and 600 dollars. That was in Chicago about 5 years ago.

Homegrown outdoor USA weed usually went for around 100 for low quality to 200 for great B quality buds in Chicago.

Top quality "skunk" or "dank" was usally 350 to 500 ounce in Chicago, but prices never changed since I started to smoke 14 years ago.

Here in France an ounce of local grown outdoor dank (we have a climate like LA) goes for 100 to 150 euros and an ounce of top quality hash goes for 100 euro when you buy 30 grams or more at once.

I live in OR - very kind place.

In Atlanta, about 10 years ago, I was getting good commercial skunk bud for $100 oz. Now I live in OR - very kind place. I don't use the black market here in Portland, I'm on the OMMP, but I think black market prices here are about $250-300 for an oz. of the kind of marijuana I get now - which is way more potent than the better-than-average skunk I used to buy in GA. I haven't used a homebox, I have a grower, but it's been recommended by people I know. It's very discrete, an important consideration whether you're legal or not.

Now Kevin Mannix is trying to do away with the program by including it in a "tough on crime" bill; if that happens, I'll have to move (or buy a homebox?)

It was before sophisticated weighing scales. A unit of measure was a Prince Albert Can approx one ounce. Later that became "lid" and they both went for under $10. Also it didn't matter where it came from it was the same price. It wasn't until the mid sixties that it became specialized like "Panama Red" & "Acapulco Gold".
