Before I went in to rehab, I threw a last good drunk
After reading the threads on mounting credit card debt and increasing defaults, I'm wondering how many people are throwing their last party?

Knowing that next year is going to suck and wanting to give their families one last good christmas, I wonder how many people are pulling out the plastic for one last splurge.

1. Speaking as a former drunk(10 years in March!)...
I think your analogy is quite apt. The same sort of urges impel both snot-slingin', commode-huggin', elbow-scrapin' drinking and massice credit card debt.

2. Congratulations
I've got confidence you'll make ten, if you've survived * this far and haven't reached for liquid courage then you've got some pretty good mojo working.

3. Not many in my part of town
Wally's parking lot was nearly empty when I drove past yesterday. I haven't gone out to see it today. Wally's and the Dollar Store are about it for this neighborhood unless you're the scumbag who broke into my house last October and ripped off my mother's wedding ring.

But you're right about addicts and rehab, which is why I've been saying this is the last credit card Christmas for folks who can still leverage debt before the crash, hangover, and trip to rehab and recovery begins.

It's just astonishing to me to see how many people out there who don't realize they've hit bottom yet.

4. The local news was doing a segment
on how busy the malls were, people couldn't find a parking place, of course these were the upscale malls where the same cheap chinese crap cost twice as much.

5. Not me. I stopped using credit cards several years ago (but somehow I'm still paying on them)...
I pay only cash and try not to pay so much that I get too far behind on what I need to pay out for necessities and bills.

December was a good income month for us, but I paid out more on debts than usual.

My kid is getting an MP3 player, a refurbished PlayStation 2 (his request: he knew I would be able to pay out for a new one), a game to go with it, a couple of hardback books I got for less than five dollars each, and some small stocking stuffers.

I explained that this year would be slim and he said he understood. I sure hope so...

6. I do too
I have a debit card, when I'm broke I'm broke. That's a good kid you have there, willing to take something refurbished that would be just as good as new, have a good one.

7. Yeah, I was surprised, but it was his idea. I guess, better a refurbished PS2 than none
at all.

(I've trained him by being a frequent supporter of a thrift shop that supports a shelter for abused women and children...)
