Pleased with the upstart airline痴 reconciliation efforts, many of its passengers are willing to forgive the faux pas.
By Walter Hamilton and Adrian G. Uribarri
Times Staff Writer

February 19, 2007

(snip)

Five days after operational glitches forced JetBlue to cancel dozens of flights, leaving scores of passengers stranded around the country, operations at its huge Kennedy terminal seemed close to normal Monday. And for the most part, passengers here and at Long Beach Airport in California seemed willing to forgive the upstart airline -- provided that it never repeats last week's breakdown.

For many passengers, JetBlue's debacle caused more than headaches: It ate into their mid-winter vacations... Several passengers said they appreciated that JetBlue had publicly apologized and taken responsibility for its operational flaws.

1. From LA/OC to JFK there is only one good choice

Jet Blue from Long Beach. No crowds, easy cheap parking, easy terminal access, no stops. The nightmares of John Wayne, LAX and long commute to Ontario as well as American Airlines are all avoided.

2. Jet Blue is my favorite airline
I fly with medium frequency, and I gotta say I LOVE JetBlue. Their prices are good (and don't go up as it gets closer to the departure date, which is great because I take a lot of short notice flights) and their customer service is excellent. Plus, you get a decent snack and In-flight DirectTV! Can't beat that! Oh yeah, and Kennedy is the most accesible airport by public transportation in the NYC area.

I will always try and find a flight on JetBlue before any other airline. Most other people who fly it feel the same.

6. Agreed and Well Said.
I have really given up on flying for vacations in any event, but I will certainly use a Union Airline if I do fly. I listened to the Jet Blue CEO yesterday on NPR as I was driving home and my take on his logic was that they really don't need D.C. sticking their nose in, the good corporate citizens would fix this problem themselves. Using that logic, then of course we don't need any safety rules either, as it's just not in the best interest of the airline to have safety problems. Pretty much came off as a "crock-o-sh...." in my mind.

10. Or you are at the mercy of the one airline serving your city
non stop flights, where it declares bankruptcy to, among others, get concessions from the union (NWA).

3. Not A JetBlue Exclusive Problem
But hopefully, JetBlue will help solve it. There is absolutely no reason to keep passengers on a grounded plane for over even one hour.

9. And not even a US probelm
Two years ago we were stuck in Amsterdam for 30 hours because of miserable 6" of snow.

Still, our aircraft never showed so we never left the terminal. We just spent the night there, to be sure to rebook the next morning.

But we did hear horrible stories from other passengers who did sit on the tarmac, in the planes for 4 and 7 and 9 hours.

And when daylight arrived, and I saw that nothing was done during the night, I was glad that our flight was scheduled for a late evening, as we kept hearing about earlier scheduled flights being canceled, again.

In Europe the airport operations are separate from the airlines, so once they closed the airport, everyone just went home... until 7:00 the next morning. All the restaurants closed and we were left to fend for ourselves.

At least, the restrooms remained sparkling clean..

7. it's not screw-ups that cause the demise of a company
it's how they handle the screw-ups - people can be remarkably forgiving when their pain and frustration is acknowledged with honesty and without BS excuses
