The cat is out of the bag. A handful (about 10 in today's case) of U.S. Senators can put the kaibash on bad law. It just takes the guts to get out there and do it. It takes a willingness to endure the political heat and the ugly back-spin from our corrupt media. So now that we've had a real-time demonstration of what we already knew was possible, I have to ask:

When will we see the corporate "free trade" filibuster?

When will we see the filibuster of a corrupt crony Bush appointment?

and most importantly, when will we see the Iraq occupation funding filibuster?

and, ummm, why haven't we already?

Dodd filibustered the FISA bill to demand removal of retroactive immunity for the Telecoms. Reid caved, at least til after the New Year. Big victory!

7. Ya know there's a Presidential candidate

who knows a thing or two about filibusters:

...Gravel clashed not just with the Nixon administration but with fellow Democrats who counseled a more cautious approach to a president who, before Watergate, was perceived as being both popular and powerful. It was Gravel who in 1971, against the advice of Democratic leaders in the Senate, launched a one-man filibuster to end the peacetime military draft, forcing the administration to cut a deal that allowed the draft to expire in 1973.
