I am writing regarding the recent editorial by Representative Joe Barton.There are several factual mistakes that Mr.Barton made that need to be corrected.
1.Discussion of non-binding resolutions is not what demoralizes our troops.When these brave soldiers and Marines are sent with inadequate equipment,no body armor,lack of up-armored vehicles because this is the way You wanted to fight this war-on the cheap,with their sacrifice meaning nothing-that is demoralizing.You,Mr. Barton,and your Republican cronies have underfunded this war for 4 years.Your military record stands behind your troop support..you have none,just like the other Republican chickenhawks who want to play soldier with our boys.You want to play soldier,then kick them to the curb,with grossly underfunded veteran's benefits,extended and multiple deployments,and little or no help for their families back home.
2.Murtha's resolution does not embolden our enemy.Record profits for Exxon,Halliburton and Lockheed-Martin do.They now know that those in the highest levels of government have sold their souls to the almighty dollar,and don't mind dragging this war on to make a few million more.You should know this,Mr. Barton-the boards of these companies read like a Republican who's-who.
3.You recommend we not abandon this fledgling democracy.Would that be the Sunni or the Shiite faction of it?What side are we on ,Mr. Barton?While you think about it,7 more soldiers were killed.
4.You HAD to bring up 9/11.Why didn't we invade Saudi Arabia,Mr. Barton?14 hijackers were from there.Oh,that's right-your party profits too much from their money.Iraq's intelligence was flawed,and your party LIED to the American people.
How can your party ever be trusted again?You sent my son to Iraq THREE TIMES for a lie.You have profited off the blood of his brothers-in-arms.Shame on you for trying to deflect your complicity in all this.You,sir,have not supported our troops.
