Reid: I "Respectfully disagree" with Joe Lieberman
"I have the greatest respect for Joe, but I simply have to disagree with his decision to endorse Senator McCain," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said in a statement to CNN

Boy, you could write this guy's quotes before he says them can't you? Once again capitulation is the choice of Senator Reid.

I hope Chris Dodd runs for majority leader.

Something most of us DUers do NOT watch but the rest of the country we're trying to convince to vote democrat do.

We assume that every democrat voter is just like us - there is a whole world of democrats out there that are not a part of the online political community. Hell if we onliners were the majority, Howard Dean would have won the democratic primary in a landslide (with Kucinich in second).

14. There is no need for such fulsome praise-it sounds insincere
it sounds weak, "the greatest respect" - oh really? This is not "class" - it is mealy-mouth, weak, vapid. If he really has "the greatest respect" for a senior member of his own Party endorsing the opposition, he must not have much conviction in his own Party's platform.

The choice is not between praise and epithet-laden invective, it is between "respect" and dismissiveness and making clear exactly how ill-judged you consider such an endorsement.

But then, after his own Party showed so clearly what they thought of their own Primary voters in CT, Harry's in rather a pickle regarding the war-mongering Holy Joe, isn't he?

The Dem leadership has exactly what they deserve in Lieberman.

19. Oh for goddess sake, and I don't know that? Thank you Captain Obvious.
And does not in the least refute my point - in fact, had he said "the distinguished Senator from..." it could be read as said with irony. To make a personal statement: "I" "have the greatest respect" is uncalled for, unnecessary, and inappropriate in the circumstances. There are ways and ways of showing contempt with "polite" language, and Harry should have the brains to use them.

15. Liebermann Endorsement? Bwahahahaha
Liebermann, Party of One...Liebermann, Party Of One...

OK...so how many people are saying to themselves today how they're looking at McCain differently since Joementum endorsed him? You can count the people on one hand. Oh...and the talking heads in the corporate media who still think Joe's a Democrat (he's not) or has mass appeal (he doesn't). He doesn't speak for many Jewish voters either...especially this one.

Who cares what Reid thinks...I sure don't.

17. Joe's had Harry by the balls for a year.
Harry can't say what's surely on his mind because Joe can still walk over to the Goopers and change everything.

I know that Joe doesn't want to do that--the minute he officially switches to GOPee, he ceases to be the object of anyone's attention (and with Joe, it's always about Joe.)

But let's not forget what an incredibly powerful card that is, that he has to play here. If Joe officially declares himself a Republican, that means it's a 50-50 tie and Cheney casts the tie breaker to re-form all the committees.

Reid simply can't play chicken that way. I understand this. I don't excuse any act of cowardice on the part of Bush Dog Dems, but I don't fault Reid for what he said today.

18. Reid cannot slander, defame or,
make personal attacks when making
a statement. He can disagree with
the person's stances on issues and
disagree with the party they represent.
Call it 'decorum', parlimentary procedure,
or what ever you choose. Reid handled
it the proper way.
