8. It certainly does!
Recently Bayh has been on the morning shows spreading Clinton's message, and yet, he found time to vote against the energy bill. It also should be noted that Bayh sits on the Intelligence Comm. that produced the worst FISA bill imaginable if one believes in democracy. This morning his blather about the danger of Iran absolutely gave me the creeps. So yes, I'd think he's greatly improved his status as a vp for Hillary Clinton.

BTW, I volunteered for Bayh's father when he was running for president, and I don't regret it. I wouldn't cross the street for the son.

15. Would not be a good choice politically
If Bayh was elected VP

The Governor, in this case a Republican would appoint his replacement in the Senate. Even if somehow we elect a Democrat for Governor and could appoint a Democrat it would be difficult for a Democrat other than Bayh to win in 2010. Republicans have not wanted to run any credible candidate against Bayh. They would with a new face.

6. Even at least seems to be a sane human. Bond on the other hand
IS AN AH! What is this
BS that they can't have two diffefrent investigations going on at the same time? Well damn, I sure wish someone had told ME that when I was Acctg. Dir. and our co. was being investigated by almost every Fed Dept. except the FDA, and the SC FBI ALL AT THE SAME DAMN TIME! That "investigation" lasted SIX YEARS, and resulted in them finding no wrong doing. It did however result in ME having to be hospitalized for mental and physical exhaustion!

Biden was on that show earlier, and HE WAS RIGHT! He also told Wolf "I have no confidence in this President. I have no confidence in this
VP, and I have no confidence in the DOJ!"

7. IN was the only state gov to be totally controlled by the KKK
Bill Clinton won every state in the area from Louisiana to Minnesota to Maine back to Louisian, EXCEPT IN, which he didn't even come close to winning.

Do you think they are going to elect Russ Feingolds and Barbara Boxers to the senate anytime soon?

9. Hi, skipos. Good point -- Russ and Barbara would not be electable in
the Hoosier State.

Evan is not many people's favorite progressive, but he is an electable Democrat.

The last liberal U.S. Senator from Indiana was Birch Bayh, Evan's dad, who was replaced by Indiana voters in favor of an upstart Republican Congressman named Dan Quayle.

It was a damn sad evening in Indiana all around.

13. Birch Bayh helped draft the ERA, Evan isn't the same
IMHO, Birch's record was far more moderate than his son's. He also helped lead the fight to lower the voting age to 18. I can't imagine his son doing any of those things. Evan is more willing to follow, not lead.

14. I think you've nailed the objection progressives have to Evan as well as
delineated the respect they still feel for his father.

And his mother, too. Marvella Bayh was strictly top-drawer. She was much loved and is greatly missed.

Evan is more politically prudent than his dad and it has won him several statewide victories in Indiana. He's likely the only Democratic veep nom who could put Indiana in play, but even then it would be a tough go.

Gov. Daniels is not terribly popular in Indiana. In 2008 we do have a chance to take the statehouse back. Evan Bayh held it for 8 years.

I miss Birch, of course, and for that matter, I miss Vance Hartke. U.S. veterans had a far better fate when Vance Hartke's voice was still in the Senate. But even Hartke only won by a few hundred votes over a human pig -- Richard Roudebush.

11. Interesting
I read a book recently about the history of the KKK in southern Illinois government during their heyday. Not surprising that happened in Indiana, too. Are there any books on it you recommend?

17. History looks very similar
Here's the book I read recently about wars between gangs, labor unions and the Klan before and during Prohibition. One of the Klan leaders who was working in Washington DC actually came to S. Illinois and basically organized the Klan, rigged elections, terrorized the locals and took over local government, including law enforcement, courts, everything. It was frightening how much it reminded me of the GOP today. Only back then the newspapers objected to it.
