Memo to the Nation: Are You F$#@ing Brain Dead?

"Who are you going to believe? The NIE intelligence, or the President's?"

Dec. 10, 2007 – Hollywood (HuffPo / apj.us) – Before the ink on the "No WMD" NIE report had a chance to dry, Neoonservatives hit the talk show circuit and the broadcast Lords of Loud radio right went into overdrive to spin the information into a full scale intel overdrive...

snip>

In a Rasmussen Poll, only 18% of voters are buying the report's conclusion with 66% believing Iran is still building WMD. You say that they must have only polled Fox News viewers? Think again while I splash cold water on the idea that a Democratic administration is a Jan 20, 2009 slam dunk.

Only 29% of liberal voters believe the report.

snip>

With these numbers, I don't blame the President for continuing to spin the report like a drunken dreidel (my wife didn't think I could connect this story with the never-ending Chanukah holiday). Why not? What hasn't worked for the country, seems to have worked just swell for this president and his policy failure beneficiaries.

1. I believe NIE intelligence is light years more accurate than any poll saying only 29% of liberal...
...voters believe the NIE report. Sounds like utter horseshit to me. Who paid for the Rasmussen survey?

4. "The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4 percentage points..."
It's total garbage.

6. Lol. Since when is a +/- margin of error of 4% total garbage?

Take the article any way you want to... makes no difference to me.

BTW...The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Seems you forgot this part.

8. Since people with integrity were in charge of polling.
The problem is that so many garbage polls are accepted today that it's become the norm. But I feel as you do, believe whatever you want.

10. It would be great if you could provide some evidence to refute the poll.
That number to me seems staggering as well. However, the point of the article seems to encourage a worthy outcome; to get emotionally invested in the travesty that is our political arena these days and to elicit change.

14. Look, I'm not a statistician, but I worked with them for years.
They are a group that largely needs therapy, but that is beside the point. During that time, I learned that a plus or minus 4 error margin is right about where data becomes crap but, because of the deteriorating quality of telephone survey data (for a number of reasons, including more transient populations, the exponentially growing use of cell phones which are often excluded from telephone surveys, the rapidly declining response rate and changes in area code exchanges which make them less reliable for demographics) researchers and pollsters are and have been for years now forced to use data that would have been considered sketchy if not unusable years ago, but jobs, theses and reputations would be on the line now for saying so. There is no link to that, it's just what I know. Believe or not, I don't care.

2. Yes. Totally braindead.
If you collected all the rational, sane, and politically aware Americans together for a party, you could hold it in a medium-sized Starbucks.

5. God, I wish we were ONLY brain dead. We are the reincarnation, mentally of the 1930s Germans.
Believe you me, being simply brain dead would be a step up from where the Imperial Subjects of Amerika are right now.

It would be a blessed state, in comparison to what we are now and the simple fact that there is no bottom limit to the atrocities we will be able to perform and accept soon, if not right now.

7. The Right owns the "truth" in this country -- too few challenge them
The USA is going down.

9. The amount of capitulation right now is absolutely sickening.
We have no leadership for the people...

13. I wish I had optimism to share
But I have none left anymore. And it isn't because of this poll...it's everything.

We're going to have to learn the same way the Germans did. And maybe when it's over we'll purge ourselves of the Bushes and Cheneys and O'Reillys and Coulters who looted and lied us into moral depravity the same way the Germans did: hunt them down.

12. So many factors that have led to this...
Corruption on the part of businesses, politicians, and agencies designed to thwart them, psychological paralysis from all the targeted propaganda, and the fear that our country is, and has been, usurped and does not reflect the morals we believed it represented.
