(City of ) Lawrenceville outlines plans to reactivate (Radioactive Drinking Water) wells (AJC)
Looks like only the local media is going to cover this (and thankfully, I don't live in Lawrenceville) so I thought I'd post this here to ask, Is this a stupid idea, or what?

Lawrenceville outlines plans to reactivate wells

By GEORGE CHIDI
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 12/13/07

Lawrenceville leaders presented their plan Thursday night to reactivate the city's long-dormant wells, some of which have radiation contamination.

The sparsely attended public hearing laid out plans to remove unacceptably high levels of radium and uranium from drinking water in the wells. By bringing the city's wells online, Lawrenceville theoretically could eliminate the need to draw water from Lake Lanier and Gwinnett County's water system, Mayor Rex Millsaps said.

"We have more than enough capacity," Millsaps said.

The city is considering hiring a Colorado-based cleanup company, Water Remediation Technology LLC, to filter contamination from one of the wells.

If approved by the city and cleared by the state environmental office, Lawrenceville would have the first municipal water supply in Georgia using water cleaned of radiation, said Rick Zahnow, eastern regional manager for Water Remediation....

1. Just asking
Are the people who live there really that stupid? 42 cents a liter! Water can probably be bought for less on the wholesale market. They have drunk too much of the kool-aid down there.

2. Apparently the people running the City of Lawrenceville think so...
...but to me, it looks like a giant Scam.

Either they buy and build this treatment plant and it doesn't work, but they still keep the money, or the build it and it does work, but then the steal the money one Liter at a time.

4. No, They're gonna pay 42 cents a liter for now safe, no longer radioactive water.
...or at least, that's what they are going to tell the residents.

Would I believe them, in a word...NO!

Hell, if I lived there, I'd be getting a Geiger counter as my next major purchase.

5. No we aren't...
It's just that nobody here has a fucking clue on what to do with the water crises so we are starting to hear all of these crazy ideas. I'm sure there will be more to come.

Commercial car washes are still allowed to operate but they are thinking of opening radioactive wells: Sounds like a sound policy to me :sarcasm:

And I know all of you are going to be soooo jealous when our water supply causes us to glow in the dark. We will be the in thing at all the raves.
