Gore draws ‘rapturous’ ‘ovation’ at U.N. climate meeting. »

At the 190-nation talks on global warming in Bali yesterday, former vice president Al Gore drew “rapturous applause and cheers” when he criticized the Bush administration for opposing mandatory limits on greenhouse gas emissions: “My own country the United States is principally responsible for obstructing progress in Bali.”

Watch a portion of Gore’s speech/read transcript at link~

Gore drew an even louder ovation when he “reminded delegates that President George W. Bush has only one year and 40 days left in the White House.”

1. Now I wish Al Gore would get down to saving America... Stand up and speak...
out about what he see's happening in his own country before it is to late. We need people like Gore to take a fighting stance in his own country to save it, and without this the US is rapidly headed into the Banana Republic category. Come on Al, lets put saving the planet on hold for just long enough to save your country.

9. This is just a hunch, but.....
I'm betting that Al Gore is waiting to see if Hillary locks the nomination up
by early March, or if she implodes instead. I don't see her imploding, and am
one of a few here (apparently!) who can live with her candidacy without desiring
it per se. However.........IF Hillary drops out for any reason whatsoever, I'm
betting he has the machinery in place (just in case) to enter and enter big. The
media will try to rip him to shreds for doing it, and probably the Edwards and
Obama campaigns would, understandably enough, try to do the same. Even so, if he
enters the race, I am undecided no more, and will be backing him to the hilt.

11. It seems, they agree with Uma Thurman's take on Al Gore's oratory skills.

There he was again on the world stage--in Oslo this time--celebrating his Nobel Peace Prize with singer Melissa Etheridge and actress Uma Thurman, the Hollywood hottie who called him "adorable" and said listening to him talk was "like watching a beautiful racehorse run." But Al Gore isn't running. Which raises the question: maybe Gore's gotten a little too adorable--too comfortable in his role as a globe-trotting guru. What about his own damn country? Why isn't Al Gore--Nobel laureate and enviro rock star, embodiment of the alternative history that never was, winner of the largest popular-vote total in U.S. presidential history--seeking the job that many people still think should have been his in 2000? Yes, we've all heard that Gore's reached a kind of peace within himself, and what fire that is left in his belly is guttering out. But shouldn't this Hamlet of the Hustings be tormented with a little of the melancholy Dane's anguished ambition, telling himself: "The time is out of joint; O cursed spite, that ever I was born to set it right?"
