U.S. Congressman (Don Young) calls for war critics to be hung

U.S. Congressman calls for war critics to be hung

by Sam Bishop, Fairbanks News-Miner
Feb. 16, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Don Young on Thursday added his voice to the speechifying about President Bush's Iraq policy and bolstered it with what he thought was the voice of President Abraham Lincoln.

The man who Young quoted, though, was not the nation's 16th president but a professor at a Washington, D.C., graduate school.

"I'd like to make a quote," Young began after being granted his five minutes on the House floor. "'Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled or hanged.'"

4. Whether or not we are hung is not your business, Congressman. . But none of us
should be hanged, a fate reserved for nasty little war criminals such as yourself.

What an illiterate, ignorant asshole!

6. NIce
So how exactly would that work Congressman Shit-for-Brains? That's 2/3rds of the fucking country. If you are going to spout off such nonsense at least give us all an idea of how you propose to have that happen.

You'd pretty much have to bring all the troops home and even that wouldn't be enough to round up all the dissenters in the country. So then what happens in Iraq you pro-war bozo?

13. his Congressional bio claims that he "served in the Army's 41st Tank Battalion . . .

from 1955 to 1957" . . . that's a pretty short enlistment, which leads me to believe this might be some kind of reserve unit . . .

http://donyoung.house.gov/bio.htm

on edit: apparently the 41st Tank Battalion was a unit of the 11th Armored Division (Patton's, I believe) which fought during WWII . . . in 1955-57, they seem to have been stationed in post-war Germany . . .

btw, another interesting fact about Don Young is that he's a director of the National Rifle Association (NRA) . . .

11. aside from the blatant inaccuracy of the quote
this reach over the past few months to equate bush with Lincoln and Iraq with the US's own insurgency 147 years ago is yet another desparate attempt to spin this debacle. There is no valid comparison. Lincoln's "unpopular war" was taking place practically in line-of-sight view of the White House. He could See Robert E. Lee's home in what is now Arlington Cemetery. The US government was under attack by separatists.

To attempt to draw any comparison between that circumstance and the current mishandled misadventures goes beyond the absurd.

Using this erroneous quote to cement that comparison just compounds the stupidity.

12. Should he be reported to the FBI for making threats against people's lives?
Maybe he can't be prosecuted for what he says, but he should feel the cold shadow of the law peering over his shoulder.

14. Words that they should
listen to and follow. As whom, is it that has decided to cut the funds from the VA in the latest budget?

I'd wager that everyone of the votes for cutting the VA funding comes from those that have a (r) behind their names, if so, then can the unquote from the 16th President be carried out for their actions to damage the morale and undermine the dignity of the soldiers?
